Has anyone discovered a really good cat toy?

We’ve got a 7 month old boy who’s driving us all crackers! 🤣

He just seems so full of energy he wants to burst!

He has toys already but he seems bored of them so I was wondering whether you have recommendations for a really good toy which will keep him occupied.

Obviously we play with him but we haven’t got time to play with him for hours on end so what I’m looking for is something to amuse him when I can’t.

Thanks

Obligatory pic attached 😻

Cardboard boxes with toys inside? He can jump in and out of and shred if he wishes?

Curtains or a Christmas tree to climb up! 😆

Redburnett · 08/12/2025 09:59

Last year I got a catnip clownfish from Home Bargains for the visiting cat. She went wild 'fighting' it. Relative sent a video of her doing the same the other day so the catnip has obviously lasted.

MemorableLlama · 08/12/2025 10:04

I’ve had to severely reduce my Christmas decorations this year to non breakable ones because he’s a nightmare! 🤣
And I’m only having a small tree because he’ll definitely trash it!

Both our cats' favourite toy has been a small rolled up ball of foil! While you can get them started kicking it about, our kitten will amuse herself for ages "chasing" it 🤷‍♀️

I have attached photo of cat and catnip clownfish

We have a similar full of beans, 6 month old. Insatiable need for play and mischief. Bought a fair few toys, but this is the clear winner for us (although it's currently lost in the house somewhere) https://amzn.eu/d/bRRgZZ1

Catnip cuddly toys here too, we've got some banana shaped ones from Pets Corner that they love wrestling with and sniffing and last ages.

rainbowsparkle28 · 08/12/2025 10:12

Mine generally likes any with catnip in, aside from that, the little (thankfully not breakable) baubles that ping around everywhere on the hard floor she is obsessed with despite having a selection of actual cat toys about 2 metres from the Christmas tree 🙄🤗

SilverPink · 08/12/2025 10:12

The one our cats love the most are the interactive feather type ones that come on a long wire fishing pole type thing, with a suction cup to attach to the floor or wall. Can’t think of the proper name but they’re under interactive cat toys on Amazon. Keeps them bouncing around for hours. Also, a crinkly tunnel filled with ripped up newspaper or tissue paper.
(Several cats here to keep entertained… our house is like a cat crèche 😆)

Iknowdino · 08/12/2025 10:12

Da bird is fantastic but does require your input to swish it around! We have one similar that sticks to a window but it's not as well loved.

I have some 'cat grass' from Amazon that's just tissue paper 'grass' I hide toys and treats in it in a large cardboard box.

My crazy boy cat likes a cat tunnel with a dangly ball hanging off it. And a huge Kong kicker with a fluffy tail. He also adores ping pong balls!

Other hits include:
A large bowl filled with water, balance treats on milk bottle tops, add ping pong balls - seems to be lots of fun 'fishing'

A ouuji board thing we got at Halloween from pets a home with a butterfly and wiggly worm that moves around. Not sure you can still get it as it was a Halloween thing. But they do similar flying butterfly toys on Amazon.

Lots of scratch mats in different forms.

Cardboard circle thing with a ball inside. Currently have some of these at the range.

Also we have a big cat treat holder that they have to figure out how to get the treats. That keeps them busy for a bit. They also love to chase treat sticks, but again these require a person to throw for 'chase'.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 08/12/2025 10:18

Mine never, ever get bored of chasing the laser. The tunnel also gets a lot of use.

My worst investment was the bloody flippity fish or whatever it's called. None of my four even looked at it so I gave it to a friend and none of hers were interested either.

Jugendstiel · 08/12/2025 10:19

The biggest success I know is the laser. Every cat I know adores chasing after a little red spotlight.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/12/2025 10:20

According to DCat my toes are apparently where it’s at.

They’re in shreds. SHREDS!

Echobelly · 08/12/2025 10:22

Interested to know as we've just adopted two 7 month old boys who are full of energy. A friend who is very good with cats was just advising me to get toys to discourage them from hand biting - they are rather given to 'danger cuddles'

@MemorableLlama - of course in that photo he looks like butter wouldn't melt!

shellyleppard · 08/12/2025 10:23

Ping pong balls, an empty cardboard box with some treats)toys/ packing paper in always keep my furry psychos amused. B and m and home bargains have some really good catnip toys in too

Ours has loads of toys that he will play with by himself, but his favourite thing is playing with a ribbon - I swish it around and he chases it, he particularly likes it if it's wrapped round kitchen chairs for him to unfurl. It's kept in a drawer in the kitchen rather than in his toy hamper (in case he strangles himself), and he goes and sits at the drawer and shouts until someone gets it for him.

Our previous girl was largely too sophisticated for toys but did like a ball track thing.

MathiasBroucek · 08/12/2025 10:58

A tunnel about 2 m long. A laser. Fabric straws in bright colours

Jo1667 · 08/12/2025 11:17

I have two older cats and the 8 Yr old is still quite playful. His favourite is this kicker toy. Its quite big (but so is he!), which means he can kick it AND bite and suck its ears. It's very well made and despite daily maulings, it's still in good condition. Only £6 from Amazon.

Large feathers (swan or peacock are good). All our cats go mad for them.

imay8 · 09/12/2025 11:47

My youngest ragdoll kitten is 3 months, he is super playful, always racing around and loves most toys, but he adores these little spring things. You can get packs of them, I will warn you though they tend to get lost under furniture and stuff. But I do recommend, they really help him burn off energy! Both of my cats also love the interactive spinning butterfly toy, I have had to replace it due to it being used so much and the butterfly was completely squashed.
