Just for fun - mad cat owners! What do you do?

I have just bought a fake fur duvet cover from Next, just for the cat to enjoy, it's really not my style at all... and I've just put together two new scratch chaise lounges, costing me £42 for both as a Christmas present and will still get her a huge bag of valerian.

I also walk our cat (without a harness) around the streets every day, sometimes twice a day (esp in summer) as she's a scared little thing and likes human company as back up. Yes, my neighbours think am insane and often take the mick.

My last cat I did the same as, while he wasn't scared, he just loved company and come 12pm, he'd be shouting at me to hurry for a walk (he was a rescue bengal). I took one of those small cardboard scratch boxes with me, as he'd jump on it to cross the road safely, and he liked a lift up to climb a tree and jump back down on it when had enough. Yeah, bonkers cat.

Just wondering what other cat owners do for their animals? Any other totally spoiled cats out there with crazy owners?!

We watch quite a lot of dubbed / subtitled Japanese and South Korean tv because our Siamese likes to watch it

That's brilliant! And really made me chuckle, thankyou!

My cat takes me for walks around the local streets. I just follow along at his invitation/demand.

Happyjoe · 02/12/2025 17:00

@TryingAgainAgainAgain Ah, so you have a walker too! That's ace :-)

I’ve been hankering for a tree skirt for a few years. Finally found one I liked and it arrived today.

Text DH who is working away “tree skirt arrived, the boys are going to LOVE it, it will be so soft for them!” The boys being 2 chunky rescue moggies, who certainly don’t need encouraging to engage with a Christmas tree….

Happyjoe · 02/12/2025 17:15

@user1471548941 Any chance going to have a toppled tree if they get too enamoured with the tree skirt? 😁

One of mine loves cat tv on you tube! We also made sure we got fabric sofas when we replaced our last ones as they give a better tug for their claws (and don’t leave marks!).

TomatoSandwiches · 02/12/2025 17:45

My girl Luna does the ekkk ekkk at DH when he sneezes so now I do it with her which gave me extra petting time.

She's so smart.

Ahsheeit · 02/12/2025 18:19

I play hide and seek in the churchyard at the back of my house. I'm a middle aged woman. The locals have got used to me now, and want to make a fuss of him. He's always happy to oblige.

TheGriffle · 02/12/2025 18:22

We have had a chewed up cardboard box in our living room for weeks with a cosy fleece blanket in it as the boys have chosen it as their designated bed and chew toy (while ignoring the 4 actual cat beds we have dotted round the house).

Overtheatlantic · 02/12/2025 18:30

I was away for a week and my first day back she requested three nap cuddles. I left the laundry to follow her upstairs so I could rest my cheek on her hind quarters.

What is this?! I ask as an aspiring mad cat person.

We have had a manky old broken down Amazon box on top of our fridge for almost two years! When we first adopted Louie he hid up on there, so I put it up for him, then I added a blanket too. He still hops up for a daytime nap sometimes, this photo was last month, although he is now no longer hiding up high because he is frightened and is more likely to be found on a cosy bed or lap.

Our previous cat loved tuna, like really, really loved it - I would make tuna mayo sandwiches for lunch purely so she could have a little.

I have 3 cats - 4 cat trees of varying designs, two pop up play cat tents, a pop up branch tunnel, and incredibly large number of toys .
Each night I switch on the electric blanket on our bed at 6pm to keep the cats warm.
I could go on.

Ha, that's just fabulous, I truly love it, not only because you reminded me that I used to race the cat to a tree or bench in the churchyard behind our house! And yeah, a middle-aged woman here too 😁and of course, the cat always won.

Good cat mum! Love the electric blanket, just perfect.

Here are my two, the box is significantly more chewed now (this was a few days ago when younger cat decided to try and sit on our old boy!)

Similarly, we leave the radio on for the cats when we're out.

Breakfast is served before I even get to make a cup of tea. Supper is always served at the same time of night of course, but whenever I eat a meal in the house the cats need to have something to eat too be it some chicken, a lik e lix or similar. She must have her chicken broken into tiny bits and served on the edge of her doughnut bed before I leave for work. He must have his torn into strips and fed by hand next to the sofa.

I can only use my end of the sofa, except when Girlcat requests my presence. Then I need to sit next to her, at the cat end, to scritch her head, neck & belly. If she orders it, I must stand behind the sofa so she can lie on the top of the back while being fussed. Tobias will request head scritches when I move through any doorways, which of course I oblige him with.

The curtains in my bedroom and the living room must be kept at least 4-6 inches apart in the middle, to allow cat egress without them having to push the curtains aside themselves. I am currently in trouble, because when the giant cardboard box in their bedroom (yes, their bedroom, set up specifically for them) finally collapsed after years of tubster Tobias using it as a perch, I replaced it with a (shock, horror) CAT TREE of the same height instead of another large cardboard box full of clothes he could pull out through the holes he'd scratched in the sides.

DarkRootsBlue · 02/12/2025 21:10

I race her up the stairs. I start going slowly up on all fours and as she overtakes me I speed up and pretend to grab her tail. Never gets old, apparently!

One will see my lovely soft tree blanket as a lovely place to snooze…. The other will see it as an invitation! They’ve not toppled a tree yet, but one in particular is always up for something new 😂

HatStickBoots · 03/12/2025 13:28

We have two flights of stairs and five toy mice which I enjoy sliding down behind the bannisters for little boy cat to chase. He will carry them back up to the top so they can be sent down again and again. If I ask him where his mousie is, he runs off and fetches his favourite 😻

That’s adorable! 🐈‍⬛

Had to buy blackout linings for the bedroom curtains despite already having a blackout blind. You see, we can’t put the blind all the way down to the windowsill, as the cats like to be able to climb onto the windowsill. We don’t want the light shining through the bottom few inches of open blind, so had to put blackout linings on the curtains.

We have a selection of carboard boxes in the living room right now and Purdy decides which one she will receive her dreamies in - I think she thinks the bigger box will hold more! We have also been helping her to find all the toys that she hid under cupboards, sofa etc when she was small enough to fit her whole body under. She now pokes around with a paw and we all have to celebrate the toys return once found (I may have been hiding small "mice" for her to find)
