Decent food a fussy cat will actually eat??

My cat has gone off all his usual food. I usually buy premium quality wet food from Zooplus such as Wild Freedom meats, Greenwoods Tuna and Cosma soups. At the moment he's having small amounts of Sheba terrine and Purina Mon Petits Intense (bloody ridiculous name, sounds more like a perfume!). He's not keen on them, they were bought in desperation.

I took him for a check up at the vets and she thinks he's very healthy. So we agreed to try new foods and watch and wait for the moment. He is a little chubby so that's not a worry. It might be that he's had to have treats after medicating twice per day and that's shifted his palate? I do sprinkle Fortiflora on but even that's not enough to tempt him now.

He's completely forgotten that he arrived as an alarmingly thin rescue who would eat anything.

I was going to do an Untamed trial but looking at Trustpilot, many customers are really unhappy after a rebrand has apparently coincided with a big reduction in quality.

Wet food only as he gets constipated on dry food, even though he ups his water intake.

Any other suggestions of good quality wet food that is yummy? Thank you 😽

My cat is very fussy and was for a time only eating the chicken / turkey Purina gourmet, but then went off that too. (She also decided she hated Lilly’s kitchen a few years back) I tried the applaws wet food recently and she loves it - now she’s chomping mackerel, tuna and prawns too!

If he's getting a half decent dry as well, you could try Harringtons or HiLife. Mine went through a fussy phase just as at the same time Tobias got gut issues (not related to the food) & got the runs, and also my DSiS got her 2 new cats, so DSiS & I were trying out various brands & swapping them about. Mine settled on the ones above, I think hers are mainly on various Royal Canin wets as well as dry.

I did a trial of Untamed for our fussy feline and it went down very well although the size of the portions seem very very small - a lot smaller than the Katkin meal equivalent. Katkin is also a winner with ours.

My cat will only eat go cat,I’ve tried better food but all refused. Oh and that and mice etc…

My tip is to drizzle salmon oil over the top of any wet food they’ve got bored of ( sticking to daily limits ofc). DCat positively wolfs food down anything with it on ( doesn’t really like anything but gourmet perle and even then gets bored of some flavours). Makes me feel better about her eating naf food too.

My fussy kitten is absolutely loving Blink in gravy - it’s very juicy so good for water intake but a bit ££ on the purse…also makes me feel bad for his big brother perfectly happy on Whiskas!

Our little rescue madam has the occasional mouthful or two of expensive cat food, but her main preference is for freshly roasted chicken, warm prawns and tuna in spring water. Goodness knows how she managed when she was living on the streets.

I am still wondering if something is wrong. He'll eat a little and then no more.

I’m an untamed convert! My fussy two love it, one will only eat untamed and even turns her nose up at roast chicken hot from the oven 🙄 I have had nothing but positive experiences with untamed. They sent a ripped bag once but refunded me within the hour.

I have a very fussy old lady. We have tried so many foods including untamed. She is currently eating Aldi Gourmet Mousse Cat Food (but only in chicken or seafood flavour) with a lick-e-lix (also likes the Aldi version) squeezed on top

ive got a very fussy girl. she seems to be loving KatKin at the moment so im more than happy to pay although its a little bit pricy just so I know shes eating well. I heat it up a bit in the microwave and add a bit of water so it has a bit of gravy to it and she adores it. they do 14 day trial boxes if you want to try it out think its only about £15. does need to be frozen before thawing though so youll need freezer space xx

Apparently Blink! have moved manufacture to Thailand in the last month or so and many cats are in revolt at the changes.

my two can have anything they want if they eat it

they have IAMs and Purina dried food and the vet has asked what I feed them due to their shiny coats but they still mither for wet food

My cat will eat most food with lic a lix squirted on it. Current fave is Morrisons small tins of cat mousse

Our boy’s been fussy with his food this week too. I bought a load of different things to try and he’s wolfing down Felix biscuits and loved one of their cat soups, but I’d rather he was eating something better. I mixed the biscuits with his usual Royal Canin tonight and that seemed to work.

He’s never been a fan of wet food but was really going for the Gourmet pate things until I gave him a liver one, and that seems to have scunnered him at those.

This is such a thing isn’t it?? Last night I tried a bit of Sheba premium something in gravy (attempting to reduce the amount of Blink he gets through). He sniffed it, looked at me in disgust and started scraping round it 🙄 I offered another bowl with Blink in this time and he was so disgusted with the Sheba that he couldn’t even summon the energy up to eat the Blink…

Personally we’ve had over a dozen healthy cats over the years on Whiskas, and a tin of tuna once a week.

I have one extremely fussy cat and feel I’ve tried almost everything out there with her. Recent success is a brand called ‘Catit’ it’s a complete food and good quality, also Canagan brand in gravy, Untamed fish in gravy and appleaws too but as you said it isn’t complete. If we’re extremely desperate we also give her a Sheba soup sachet. Everything has to be gravy, she won’t entertain jelly.

My cats used to love aldi premium cat food they began to go off it i bought in the mousse from aldi they LOVE the liver one but the STENCH in the litter tray is awful currently they are eating felix a 7+ one because they turned 7 this year of course its the most expensive one especially as they hate fish and 99% of the range come with fish flavours

We are still having slightly softer poo but that's the suger content for you its so low in actual meat its ridiculous

I have the same issue on the fussiest cats, I also buy from xooplus and currently miffed that my female cats favourite appears to have been discontinued. She only eats fish flavours was loving Cosma jelly cups. Everything I put down at the moment gets a look of disgust and then wanders away. This wouldnt be a problem apart from my male cats is allergic to flipping fish and grains and a dustbin! So it has to go in the bin.

luckily both eat biscuits - I feel the pain of rejection its worse than weaning babies

My cat is 15 and lives off Whiskas and Felix pouches, just the bog standard ones not the fancy ones, she refuses to eat
them or anything else except the dogs raw food but that’s out of spite!

Her fur is shiny, her teeth seem ok for her age, she’s still active and goes outside most days.

To be honest, I'd rather they ate rubbish food than not at all & lose weight beyond a certain amount.

My cat has the "Seriously Good " range from Pets at home. There is a chicken or tuna version. It is more expensive than Whiskas etc but not as expensive as the other premium brands as it's the pets at home own brand. If he loses his appetite (very rare) I do as above and squeeze a lick-e-lix or Aldi equivalent over his food.
