My cat had his tail amputated over 3 weeks ago, it all went well he had a come on to stop him licking it, he managed to manipulate the cone so the said to get a soft.collar,, like a flower to stop licking it he has managed to manipulate that as well. I woke up this morning to a bloody stump. Any ideas of how I can stop him being able to reach his tail. I am at my wits end. I will speak to the vets again tomorrow but they don't seen to have any suggestions

Oh dear, I have no advice except some kind of dressing? But presumably they want it to get some air?

minsmum · 17/08/2025 13:29

Yes they don't want it dressed.

Oh dear, have you tried several cones? Might be harder for her to manipulate?

You need a bigger Elizabethan collar I'd say. If they fit correctly, it's impossible to get past them to the op site.

Mine de-gloved his tail and had part of it amputated. Had to have a massive cone on as otherwise wasn't leaving it alone. Had to take it on and off for him to eat though as he couldn't get to the food properly and was miserable. So he ate supervised for the duration.

Not sure if it will work for a tail but someone told me to turn the cone the other way around and that worked better!
