Cat visiting neighbours and scaring off the feral they are feeding!

The car came home with a note on his collar saying please ring me with a number. I contacted them, and it turns out he's been visiting them quite regularly (I had suspected he was going off somewhere) but has been scaring off the feral cat that they feed. The feral is now getting quite skinny.
They would like me to keep the cat in until midday to give them a chance to feed the feral in peace, and get her regular trip to the vets by Cats Protection. Now the problem is, I leave the house at 7.30 for work....

What can I do besides buying a new expensive cat flap with a timer (I'd also have to get some window guards I think so I could actually open a window at night) which all seems a bit overboard so the neighbour can feed a feral cat!

Tempted to get her a water pistol instead so he doesn't feel so welcome there!

The water pistol idea is probably better, that way your cat isn't stuck inside for hours on end too.
He or she should learn quickly to avoid her house.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the water pistol is not unreasonable...
