Cost of prescription

I’ve just asked my vet to write a prescription for Stronghold for my two cats. They charge £64 for 6 pipettes, whereas I can get it online for £36. But the vet has said that they will charge £25 for each cat to put up the prescription! Is this normal, or exorbitant?

That's about the same as you would pay for a private script for a human in the UK, so sounds reasonable to me.

That’s an absolutely ridiculous amount. Ours charge tenner.

My ( independent) vet charges £20 for a prescription. I presume 6 pipettes lasts 6 months? Any chance your vet would prescribe for a year to save the prescription charge?Incidentally when I looked up stronghold on https://www.petdrugsonline.co.uk/ to see what stronghold was, the largest size was £28.49 so a bit more of a saving for you?

Our paper prescriptions have shot up in recent years.
Used to get two prescriptions (each of which lasted 6-months) for £12 but recently paid £36 each.

Still cheaper to do that and buy the drugs from an on-line pharmacy (it was our vet who advised us to do that in the first place).

Thanks all. The vet has informed me that the prescription will last until their boosters next year so although it seems high, it’s actually quite good value and I’ll still save a lot compared to buying it from the vets.
