Are they a good idea ? Or just another way to spend money?
And if they are a nice thing for a cat to have, recommendations please ?

Mine has begrudgingly placed one paw on it despite the fact I even put the duvet cover over it

Any thoughts on cooling mats for cats ?

Yes. They will laugh in your face.

I was feeding my neighbours cats last week - she had put a wet towel on the floor (laminate floor) and the cats seemed to love it. Tried it for our cat and he wouldn’t sit on it!

Proof that mine uses it....

Mine sleep in 40 degree heat in the conservatory in full sun, I'm suprised they haven't combusted yet. I'm pretty sure a cooling mat wouldnt be appreciated.

So I brought the cooling mat to bed tonight, safe in the knowledge it was all for me and the cat wouldn’t use it
he’s immediately stretched out and taken over the entire thing Hmm

Cars love the heat so what a waste of money 🤣

I’m pretty sure an ideal temp for cats is high 20s and above? I live in a hot climate and we have aircon in the house. In summer our cats curl up on pillows or duvets to get away from the cool air! They love nothing more than a patch of sun on a 35 degree day.

Ours has been on the living room floor for weeks and they've never gone near it.

I now realise it was placed for my convenience not theirs but am now going to try putting it in a box, which sounds like a joke 'how do you stop a cat sitting in a cardboard box? Put a cooling mat in it'.

We have 6 cats (long story) including a 17 YO who we're a bit concerned is suffering due to the heat but she does seem to like laying out on the patio in the sun but she's stopped sleeping on our bed like she always does, but that could be because she doesn't like the ceiling fan.

We also have a long haired cat but she seems absolutely fine although she is spending a long time hiding out under the bushes in the garden but she does that anyway.

We used to have another long haired cat who really suffered in the heat and stayed under the bed looking very lethargic. He had to go to the vet for a teeth clean and I asked them to shave his fur off while he was under anaesthetic. When he came home he was skipping round the garden like a new cat Grin. From then on, I used to shave him myself with dog clippers each summer. It took a few attempts as he'd only tolerate a few strokes of the trimmer each time and he looked a right mess but he was far more comfortable for it.

I live in a hot country where it can get to over 40 in summer. My cat virtually laughed in my face when I produced a cool mat.

My girl spent most of yesterday on the balcony, moving between the sunny & the shady spots. I think she definitely approves of the heat.
