my cat suddenly seems scared of me

I have a two year old male cat, He has always been affectionate and always cuddles up to me if I'm watching tv etc.

He has been neautured and is an indoor cat (british shorthair)

Over the last week or so he acts like he is scared of me, this has come out of nowhere, nothing in my or his life has changed, if i go anywhere near him he will cower and run away, if i walk into a room he acts like he has done something wrong and again will cower, usually in a corner as far away from me as he can get.

I'm not sure what has changed at all.

i live alone and have no kids or other pets

anyone else been through similar? i'm a first time cat owner and feeling like i'm doing something wrong..

I’d take him to the vet for a check up. Our cat has behaved like this when he’s been unwell and in pain, one time he had a UTI and another time he had an issue with his teeth. Hope he’s ok.

It sounds like he could be in pain and cats are very good at masking discomfort so it's worth getting him looked at.

Slightly random, but I don't suppose you have started wearing nail varnish? I had my nails painted red a couple of years ago for a one off occasion. My cat was terrified of me! I realised it was the nails and could only assume he saw bloody claws 😭 it took him a while to come back to me even after removed.
