Is she just having an off day or should I be worried?

Hi, my wee cat is almost 14.

Ever since I got her as a kitten she has slept with me and always got up at the same time as me looking for her breakfast

Except today, shes stayed in bed nearly all day sleeping, she sat on the sofa for about 20 minutes then went back to bed. She hasn't eaten anything either, couldn't even tempt her with prawns although she did eat 5 dreamies

If she's the same tomorrow would I be over reacting if I take her to the vet? Could she just be having an off day or should I be preparing myself for something more serious.

I would take her to the vets

She needs to see a vet.

Goldenboysmum · 02/06/2025 19:08

Thank you both. That's what my instinct said but my friend said I was over reacting to be worried so soon, but I know her routine/feeding habits!

I'll call them tomorrow

It cat isn't as old as yours but maybe one or twice a year he does this. I normally give 24 hours and if still the same next day would take to the vets. I've never needed to take him to the vets though!
Hope yours feels better soon

Yes, take her to the vet. Not eating for more than a couple of days can be very dangerous for cats. Ask about pancreatitis and what else might need to be ruled out.

How's your cat today, OP?

My sign to take them to the vets is if they refuse more than two meals in a row.

How's your cat today, OP?

Thanks for asking. She's a lot better, and in typical cat style the vet couldn't find anything wrong. Other than she's getting on a bit. I've to take her back in about a month for a checkup, and see how she is in general as possibly has a bit arthritis in her back legs.

The vet had a good feel around her body and couldn't feel any lumps so that's good.

She still wouldn't eat the prawns today which is making me wonder if they're a bit off but she had felix for breakfast and fish at teatime and a few dry biscuits in between which is almost a normal day for her.
