Best breed of cat to be a dog buddy

Two years ago our Burmese cat died. He was 15. His best friend was our dog. For 6 years they had a very close friendship, slept together, played together. When dcat died ddog was devastated, depressed, very sad.

Thinking it would help we got a new kitten. A bsh. She’s lovely, super sweet and she doesn’t mind the dog. Sometimes she will even sit near her! But they aren’t friends.

Since dcat died our other dog has died too (she was old as well) and since then really ddog has never been the same. She never runs round the garden playing, she has to curl up on her own to sleep.

So what I’m looking for is a breed of cat that loves dogs, that will love snuggling. Burmese are that way but I’m not sure I can get another one, I need an emotional support pet for my pet! Oh and one that will be friends with the cat too.

Happy to be with dogs, worth checking your local one as dog friendly kittens do exist

Our Maine Coon loves everyone though he does need constant attention/compliments and will chat / purr / trill 24/7. Excellent for emotional support but does need company 24/7 and prefers at least 3 staff in the house.

Siamese , you need to be pretty unlucky to get one that’s not cuddly . We have had a Ragdoll in the past and whilst he was very friendly when he wanted he could be very aloof and it was a bit hit and miss , the Siamese are more like dogs - they greet you at the door , cuddle , play fetch , sleep under the duvet with you .

I have a rag doll siamese cross. He’s a massive, stupid cat and I adore him 🤣 He’s such a big baby. He has to put up with my crazy dd2 and he’s so easy going.

Maine coin. I have 2 very happy indoor Maine Coons who adore the dog: sleep with her, play with her, meet her at the door after walks, even share her dinner!

We have a Maine Coon and he really craves attention from our other cat a Norwegian forest cat. She hates him though! He also gets on well with the neighbours dog! He's a house cat as he's deaf but we let him in the garden on a harness and sometimes walk him on the common. As a kitten he was manic and he really would have benefited from being an outside cat but he's 2 now and has really mellowed and is happy enough being an inside cat with the occasional walk and play in the garden.
