Hand hold - just had to put my lovely cat to sleep

He was fine this morning and then this afternoon he was wobbly on his feet and was sucking in his chest while breathing. We took him to the vet and after an ultrasound they diagnosed heart failure. There was nothing that could be done. We were with him and he was very settle but we are all devastated and in shock. He was only 5.

Oh what a lovely boy, I'm so so sorry for your loss, you did everything you could and it sounds like a gentle passing knowing he was loved.

Sending love.

I'm so, so sorry 5 is no age at all. It's so sad. Sending big hugs.

Many condolences on the loss of your beautiful pusscat and at such a young age too. RIP sweet one 🌻

I am so so sorry for the loss of your handsome boy.

GuppytheCat · 17/04/2025 20:39

Oh poor boy, and poor you; 5 is no age. It's such a shock to lose one so young.

You did what you could for him.

pineapplecactus · 17/04/2025 20:47

I feel completely robbed of so much time with him. We told him every day he was a pretty cat and he had the best squeaky purr. I’ve never heard anything like it! It was like he was going to take off. The house is full of his things but none of us can even look at them.

I am so sorry about your poor, beautiful boy. You should have had so much longer with him.

Pixiedust1234 · 17/04/2025 23:01

I am so sorry for your loss. It's so hard whether they are young or old.

I got rid of everything except the cat tree when our lovely girl was pts. Couple of years later I regret it as a skinny stray moved in instead 😬 Pack the good stuff away, and keep one or two very loved toys as a memory. One day he might send another that desperately needs care in his place 🐈

I'm so sorry, what a beautiful kitty. Much love xx

I am so sorry. We lost our boy last year just as quickly and it is such a horrible shock to go from ok to not ok so swiftly. It takes time to come to terms with that. Remember all the good times you had and what a fantastic life he had xx

Mumsgirls · 17/04/2025 23:13

I really believe it is the ultimate gift you can give your pet. To be there at the end must give them so much comfort and is surely what they would choose if they could. My old boy went on my knee , his favourite place, being stroked abnd told what a good boy he was and thanked for the years together. It will hurt, a lot but one day you will smile at the memory of him. You will never forget him.
Wish some family members could have died as peacefully

I am so sorry. But you know you did the right thing not letting him suffer.

Hollyhobbi · 18/04/2025 00:05

Our first cat had heart problems and even though she was on tablets for it she had a huge blood clot which cut off the circulation to her back legs. Even though the vet tried everything we had to put her to sleep. She was 5 too.

What a gorgeous boy, I'm so very sorry

Such a shock when he was so young too🤗

Buddhalover · 18/04/2025 00:24

So sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy. The shock is horrible and especially when so quickly. We took in my FIL'S almost ferrel cat after he passed away. I was very reluctant to take him, as was quite unpleasant, but with a lot of patience and love, we turned him into a beautiful animal. When his time was up, we had no choice but to put him to sleep. It was so heartbreaking. Much love to you all.😥
