I pick them up and put them in a jar every time I find them, not really sure why, I just like to collect them!

This thread is the worst thing I've ever seen on the whole internet.

I know a worse one...

Yes, I do keep whiskers! I'm with those who see them as little treasures or lucky talismans. The black ones are a special benediction because they're harder to see.

😸

Seriously. The whole world is on fire and I sit down in front of mumsnet with a biscuit and pick a topic which I know will be soothing and I have just lost my remaining faith that there are enough sane people left to keep humanity going

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 09/04/2025 18:36

Why on earth are some people getting so worked up over shed cat whiskers?!

Exactly!

Fallen eyelashes have been lucky in folklore in many countries for centuries! Why not whiskers?

The superstition of wishing on a fallen eyelash for good luck has roots in 18th-century Britain and Ireland, with variations in how the wish is made and believed to be fulfilled across different cultures.

Some things I learned on MN ....you know when it says "DON'T Google xyz" and you think "ah there's a challenge , what harm can it do .......eurgh"😆

I like watching the cats clean their feet but it makes me wince a bit when they pull the claws with ther teeth . When I find the outer layer of claw I think "oh great that means they've got to the newer razor sharp bit "

I bet the ancient Egyptians collected any fallen whiskers from their little feline gods and kept them in a decorated gold jar to be entombed later .

Mine just have to slum it with a plastic bag .

Ah seems I can edit after all
