He’s begging to be in my bed every night

My cat is 3 and until the last few weeks has been (reasonably) well behaved. He wants breakfast at 5am so he has an automatic feeder so I don’t have to get up. He would sleep in his basket from 10pm until breakfast at 5 and then quietly do his own thing until I get up later.

Until now.

He’s been meowing at clawing at the door at any time from midnight to 4am. I give in and open the door. Sometimes he curls up on the bed, sometimes he is ultra annoying jumping on headboard and pushing whatever he can on the floor. I wake up at 7am and he’s snoozing on the bed, after having eaten.

i can’t leave the door open for him when I go to sleep as I don’t live alone and I’ll be disturbed by noise and lights. Cat isn’t bothered about having company with anyone else.

i can’t shut him in downstairs as he tears the carpet up and meows the house down. I feel like I have a young baby waking me at all hours. HELP

Think yourself lucky you only have one.
Our fouth cat was on the other side of the bed...

I'm lucky if I'm allowed in my bed and I only have 1 cat.
She's tiny yet she manages to starfish so expertly that I can't get into bed.🤣

I love it when my gorgeous ginger rescue boy joins me in bed. He usually jumps up on the bed in the early hours and then wakes me for breakfast usually between 6am and 7am. As other posters have said, it is a precious part of cat ownership. Genuine question - would you be in physical danger from the other people in the house if you left the door open a jar? Could you not just get up and let him in when he meows? It really is all part of having a pet.

It's the best feeling when they snuggle right into you and fall fast asleep. My cat snores so loudly right in my ear and does this cute thing where despite the fact she is already snuggling right up to me, she wiggles to try to get even closer. I joke that I should open my mouth so she can climb in.

Aw, it's so irresistible! I love it when my boy puts his paws over his eyes to block any light out.

I’ve had to get used to DCat sleeping in my bed because she cries all night to be let in to my room if I don’t! She can be a bit annoying getting up and down; but tbh, when she snuggles under the duvet and puts all her paws on me and then sighs a big sigh and finally relaxes, my heart melts. It’s lovely to think that you’re their place of safety and comfort.

I get the living with other people, I had to have my door open when DD and her bf lived here, didn't want them seeing me asleep when they went to the loo, came in late etc.
One fairly simple solution would be to put a door curtain on the outside of your room, blocks out light and noise and cats can wander freely.
Also if your rooms big enough can you put shelves between you and the door, like a divider?

After several years DDog has finally got the message that she can't plonk herself in the middle of the (double) bed and spread out, expecting me to fit around her. I would move her to one side and she would sigh loudly...

These days she has her dance bed space, and I have mine...

MissJeanBrodiesmother · 19/04/2025 19:57

I dint let mine in my room at night. He would be miaowing or kneeding or loud purring or potentially bothering me.

None of my cats have ever been allowed in my bedroom for a snoop, let alone sleeping rights. Current cat has six comfortable places he can choose to sleep in, including his second cat bed that he has never even set paw in ( damn rescue cats, I don’t know what they tell them life is going to be like when they are adopted, but it isn’t accurate )I have one place to sleep and I am not sharing it with him.

Ignoring all the advice from our compulsory annual fire training our house has all the internal doors open except for one ( DDs room) Guess which door FemaleCat attacks and claws at at 2am ....? Yes.

The reason DD doesn't want a 2am visit is FemaleCat wakes her with paw-patting , then progresses to claws and the odd bite .

The MaleCat comes into our room 5am which is lovely as he is very shy. Not so lovely when I woke with a crushing feeling on my chest ( he's 4.4kg+) to see his little face looming at me.

I just sent DD the link for the cat door... let's just say it was a "Hell,no"

Rosie sleeps with me on my head doesn't move until my alarm goes off. Kloppy sleeps until 4am then starts ricocheting off the walls despite having snacks and a litter tray, he then gets gently violently ejected. Thank god it's warm at night now and they both get put out at bedtime 😂
