Cat sitting for my Dc's cats for next 4 weeks and am slightly stressing out!

My DC has asked me to sit the 2 cats for the next 2 weeks. That's fine. Happy to help. Have never looked after a cat in my life! Any advice gratefully received. Firstly, they're indoor cats. We have a massive basement (basically a huge extra living room and a laundry room and our ac/heating etc) and was planning on putting them down there. I also have a very old dog who is scared of cats, hence the reasoning of the basement as opposed to being in the main floors.

So, what do I need to do? I know about litter and food. But what about socialization? Exercise? Please help me not scar these cats for life having spent 2 weeks with me! 😂

Oh and IT WILL BE FINE

the thought of my cats in a safe and loving space with someone who loves them is a billion times better than a cattery

i know some cats like it but mine as sisters would rather be together

2 weeks isn't enough to love the cats, sorry.....

I'm 14 years in with one of mine, and while I do adore him in general, sometimes he's hard to love. Particularly when pissing in the wrong place or biting me while I'm asleep.

Yes, I have designed an entire separate basement study in case my kids need to work from home too.

They won't want to go home!!

Either way, you and they will be fine. But your DC does need to set them up with everything they need for two weeks. Good luck!

Empty cardboard boxes.They love them.

Those of you saying it’s cruel and unkind - I assume you feel the same way about catteries?

OP - it’ll be fine. Just make sure they have all their home comforts and maybe get your DS to leave some of his hoodies or something behind so the cats have a familiar smell.

Also as PP said, lots of cardboard boxes!

I do. I would only use a cattery in a dire emergency.

I get a sitter in twice a day so the cats are in their own home. The youngest one is bonkers and wouldn't deal well with a cattery.

Fair enough - at least you’re consistent!

I just don’t understand why this seems to have got peoples knickers in a twist when catteries are so often suggested as great solutions.

Well, day one has been a great success! They haven't hidden at all. In fact, at one point, one of them was sitting on my head. The other one has discovered that they can walk through the bookcase so he now has chosen his favorite shelf, pushed the books off it and is sitting there looking over his domain. I have no idea why I was so nervous! Am not a fan of cleaning litter though....😀

The amount of cat toys/tree I ordered on Amazon, you may be right! But, not till my old dog is gone. He deserves having his last few months or years in peace.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOnenot always. I recently took my cat to stay with my parents. She absolutely loved it. I was quite surprised. Although I stayed with her. But she was very confident.
