Very elderly cat and her end of life

My beautiful cat is dying. She has eaten very little over last couple of days and I just woke up to her not in her bed and found her weak downstairs. She is very cuddly and sleepy and I’ve booked a vet appointment for this morning. I know what they will say and do but I guess I just need to know what this will be like.

I love her so much.

What is her name, OP, if you care to share..

We took our very poorly sweet 19 year old to the vet. I held her in a towel and the vet gave her a sedative jab before the lethal dose. She didn’t need it as her heart stopped and that was it.She was held by the person she loved most and knew very little. Shame we can’t do the same for humans.

@MrsFaustusit completely changed my view on assisted dying. It was exactly how I’d like to go when my time comes.

I'm so sorry OP, my wonderful girl died a month ago tomorrow from cancer, she was just days shy of 16.

She died at home in my arms and it was very peaceful. We didn't think she'd leave us so soon and hadn't planned for her to go at home (I'd dreaded that happening) but it was actually quite lovely.

We took her to a local pet crematorium and they handled her with such respect, they took plenty of fur clippings and paw prints for us.

Thinking of you today OP, I am still devastated that I've lost my little one, so I really do feel for you.

Thanks all for support this morning. It truly helped. It was sad and he said she was dehydrated which I now feel dreadful about-what if she’s been suffering and I didn’t do enough.

Miss her enormously. I cuddled her and cried and she lifted her head to nuzzle my tears as she has done in the past but this time the tears she was trying to comfort were for her.

I’m so sorry.
You did the best and bravest thing for her, please don’t feel you failed her in any way .
She was loved , and loved you , right to the end of her life and that’s all that matters . xxx

I’m so sorry. 💐💐💐💐💐
A couple of low days in the course of a long happy life for her is something you should be proud of. She knew she was loved. She won the lifetime cat lottery.

Iamacatslave · 19/03/2025 10:26

You gave her a long and happy life. Please be kind to yourself. ❤️

Totally not sobbing at this thread 😢
So so sorry for your loss 💔🌈🐾 My little girl is deteriorating quite quickly and we’re going to have to put her to sleep very soon. I can’t stop crying. My heart is breaking, she’s my world 💔
