Cats pulling up carpet near water bowl

One of our cats (10 months) is always trying to move the water bowl around, spilling it on the wooden floor, and pulling up the carpet around the upstairs bowl. The carpet around the bowl is now ruined. Luckily it’s old but I wanted to get new carpets soon and I’m worried that they would soon be ruined by the cat (we also have an 8 month old but she doesn’t seem to do this).

Does anyone else’s cat do this ahd have you found a way to make them stop? The bowl is positioned away from the wall in case she was worried about drinking with her back to the room but it doesn’t seem to matter where I put it, the behaviour is the same.

Also, any thoughts on the best carpet to get with 2 young cats in the house is appreciated!

She’s lovely! Absolutely no help, and I’m sure you’ve tried this but we have a mat under water bowls - in the kitchen a big plastic rectangle one with pictures of cats on it, and in the living room a cork placemat type thing. (It’s usually me or DP who knocks that bowl over!)

Do you need an upstairs bowl?
I'd take it away tbh
Use a silicone mat under the downstairs one

Put a scratch mat or post next to the water bowl, to try to divert the behaviour away from the carpet.

Put the water bowl on a different surface and use one of those no-spill travel style bowls to stop her tipping it everywhere?

My cat does this around his food and water bowl. It's an instinct to cover resources, much like they cover their business in the litter tray. I had. Water fountain he would splash everywhere too.
I eventually replaced it with this one and he doesn't splash it anymore.
Also you need to move the bowls to an area with hard floor or get a large mat underneath.
This is the water fountain I got
