Can you smell a feliway plug in?

Or is my husband part cat? He reckons it stinks and keeps switching it off.

I can't.

Crazycat53 · 22/02/2025 19:13

I can't smell ours.

CerealPosterHere · 22/02/2025 19:15

I bought a pack from Amazon and I’m beginning to wonder if they’re fake as I’ve just been googling about people smelling it and someone said there are lots of fakes on Amazon which smell. Saying that I can’t smell it.

I can smell it very faintly if I put my nose right up against it. It smells quite pleasant. I can’t smell it from any distance away.

Favouritefruits · 23/02/2025 09:56

I can smell it for the first day then it’s completely odourless.

Pigeonqueen · 23/02/2025 09:57

I can’t smell them at all. Neither can Ds and he has autism and sensory issues.

maudelovesharold · 23/02/2025 10:02

I can smell ours if I’m close to it, on the odd occasion it’s on (if our boy has been upset by a territorial spat, usually - I like to think of it as his equivalent of a nice soothing cup of tea!). It isn’t Feliway, but similar, and purchased from our vet, so hopefully not fake!

Do those of you who can’t smell it, have one on most of the time? Maybe it’s just a case of getting used to it? Ours is only on sporadically.

fivetriangulartrees · 23/02/2025 10:03

I can smell them - they're sickly. And if you leave them plugged in when they've run out, they soon smell of burning.

MeganM3 · 23/02/2025 10:04

I couldn't smell ours and I usually have a good sense of smell.

There's another version, maybe for travel, a little spritz bottle of the same stuff, I could smell that a little bit. It wasn't bad.

NotDarkGothicMama · 23/02/2025 10:05

Ours is on all the time and none of us can smell it.

StormingNorman · 23/02/2025 10:06

I couldn’t smell them but they gave me stinking migraines. Had to stop using them.

theboffinsarecoming · 23/02/2025 10:10

Yes, but very faintly and only for a day or so when it is first plugged in, it isn't unpleasant.

Bjorkdidit · 23/02/2025 10:23

I can't smell it. You've not mixed it up with one of those awful glade plug ins by accident have you?

Or could it be that this is what the fake ones are? Feliway about £15-20, plug in thing about £2/3. Would seem to be an easy way to con people for those inclined to do so.

OneFineDay13 · 23/02/2025 11:16

Can't smell anything

CerealPosterHere · 23/02/2025 15:57

No it’s definitely not a Glade plug in 😁

cat is struggling today (Dd is on holiday and cat is a sensitive boy who spirals if anyone is MIA). Dh has switched the feliway back on but declares it still “stinks like shit”. 😆. I can’t smell a thing.

I've got a really acute sense of smell and never could. I think your husband's imagining it.

Ps we did get one which was faulty and smelled like burning. We got it refunded.

CerealPosterHere · 23/02/2025 16:01

I do genuinely think Covid had the opposite impact on his sense of smell than it did for most people. He seems to have become so sensitive to smells it drives me a bit nuts. If I put vinegar on my chips he starts coughing and saying the smell makes him cough uncontrollably and he can’t help it.

I can smell them. It’s quite strong but not unpleasant. It’s hard to describe the smell though. A bit like a cross between sweat and faint washing powder smell.
