Ovarian Remnant Syndrome

I lost my beautiful girl to this today. Sadly the tissue left behind became cancerous.

Id honestly never heard of this before. She came to us already spayed. My heart is broken. Feel like I failed her. She was only 8.

Oh I'm so sorry, you weren't to know as you say she came already spayed, it's on the vet that performed the operation but even then humans aren't infallible.
You gave her a lovely home and I'm sure she appreciated everything you did for her.

You didn't fail her! I've had cats all my adult life, including spayed girls and I'd never heard of this illness.

So sorry for your loss Flowers

I hadn't heard of ovarian remnant syndrome either and I've been a cat-keeper since 1989. I googled it and apparently, not only is it uncommon, but cancer is a rare complication. Lots of cats with ORS don't have cancer. Our cat (a dark tortie) came to us as an adult and she was already spayed too. She's been fine, but if the clues lie in a cat's behaviour, they are all so different it's hard to be sure what's normal and what isn't.

You didn't let your little lady down. She was obviously loved and well-cared for and what happened wasn't your fault. I am sorry for your loss. 🌻
