Tooth extractions - how long until dry food is okay?

My little girl had a couple of teeth out last week (resorption) which she handled well and was VERY BRAVE. 😼

Her check up at the weekend was good, but we forgot to ask when we could start her on dry food again - she's always had a mix of wet and dry for the tooth-cleaning benefits. Currently she's eating well on soft pouch food with a little tuna (the only way to get the antibiotics into her). We'll take her for a second check up later this week, but I'm concerned she may just 'go off' the dry food as she's being so indulged at the moment... on the other hand, don't want to compromise the stitches or socket.

Does anyone have an experience with this? TIA.

Mine had dry food straight away. She wouldn't eat wet.

Sounds like it can be done, then; thanks. I was thinking, try her for a couple of days before the next check up so any issues can be raised.

Mine was the same. He had 12 teeth out and his fractured jaw wired and still only wanted dry food. He must have had gums of steel!

He was fine once he got what he wanted! He had a few more dental problems over the years but thankfully no more extractions. Here he is in all his gummy glory. I hope your girl is doing well.

One of ours has had all her teeth out (the vet described her as being allergic to her own teeth - I'm not sure it's exactly that but she's always suffered dental problems and has had all her teeth out in 3 ops).

The final time she was eating dry food within hours of coming back from the vets, despite wet food also being on offer. You can't force them to not eat dry food if it's there and what they want and many cats won't touch wet even if it's all that's on offer.

Only lasting affect is that she can't eat grass. I've tried cutting it up for her - they eat it as a digestive aid, but she'll ignore that and go out in the garden and just gum at the lawn.

That FACE, @PinkSparklyPussyCat !!! 😄🥰

@Bjorkdidit Interesting - she's an inveterate eater of grass, and has had a few gobfuls already. She's very happy eating wet food, and especially tuna, but I'm hoping she'll also accept dry as well for the good of her teeth. Anyway, have put a little out for her today and will observe...

Otherwise, she seems particularly peppy, and I wonder if her poor teeth were hurting her and we didn't know... but I can't blame us, because she really was masking, and I think we caught her quite early.

I have learnt that a regular check up is a better policy than 'go in if there are problems' for this reason.
