Do you think of yourself as your cat’s mum?

YourNimbleOchrePoster · 14/01/2025 18:49

I do and I used a surrogate to give birth to my biological cat.
Or do we have some cat mum’s here who actually gave birth to their cats (babies)?

Rosesgrowonyou · 14/01/2025 18:56

Weirdo.

Favouritefruits · 14/01/2025 18:57

I mean I call them ‘my girls’ and refer myself to them as mummy but u don’t actually think I’m their mum 😵‍💫

Yeah, I’m three days post C-section for little tiddles.

Fontainebleau007 · 14/01/2025 18:59

Ok thats weird 🤨

AnneElliott · 14/01/2025 19:01

With my girls (now sadly no longer with us) I used to refer to them as my babies and myself as their mum. DS also used to say he had twin sisters Blush

With the current cats, DS refers to himself as their dad! So I guess I'm technically Nanny? Not that I refer to myself that way!!

DaDaDoDaiDa · 14/01/2025 19:01

Yes, absolutely, I am their 'mummy'.

TroysMammy · 14/01/2025 19:07

He never sits on my lap he prefers my partner's lap. My partner also spoils him with chicken, fish and dreamies. I feed him and clean up his litter tray and any sick off the floor. I take him to the vets and apply flea stuff. He sees me as a slave just to do his bog standard bidding.

ScottBakula · 14/01/2025 19:08

@DaDaDoDaiDa Umm you think they are biological yours ? 🤔

timothynicebutdim · 14/01/2025 19:10

No, but I once had a dream a gave birth to a bald hedgehog.

No, I adopted them. That is a perfectly legitimate way of becoming a mum.

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 14/01/2025 19:12

If I was to say anything

I would probably say more her servant

But a low down one,

The one who empties her toilet, serves food to her and rubs her belly when required

Probably more a Sculley maid than a servant actually

I know some people call themselves dogmom and catmom which I think is cringe. They normally haven't experienced actual motherhood. I don't view myself as my cats mum, one had a whole litter and is a mum in her own right. I just see myself as their guardian. Mother is dished out lightly, there is nothing like being an actual real mother to an actual child. This is not to negate from others feelings for their pets but its not to negate from actual motherhood which is far more complex. However much you love your pets, you aren't their mother and it doesn't even come close.

soberserene · 14/01/2025 19:16

I have a pet cat.

She is not my "fur baby", she is a cat.

MoonWoman69 · 14/01/2025 19:18

@Gennn OFFS... I'm guessing you don't get the joke, OP doesn't literally mean she's given birth to her cats, she's joking!
I refer to mine as their mummy, I know they're cats, but it sounds odd saying "come on Suki and Sabre, let your owner give you some treats"! 🙄

Esgaroth · 14/01/2025 19:19

Lol no, he's a cat. I'm his friend and roommate (though he contributes very little to household expenses and general upkeep).

Minimum85percentCocoa · 14/01/2025 19:19

I don’t actually think of myself as their mum (and i’m fairly certain op doesn’t either) but we do jokingly refer to each other as mummy and daddy when talking to our cats ‘are you sitting with mummy?’ etc. I forgot this was weird though and one day was walking my house cat on a harness and lead down our street (which looks pretty weird as it is), then saw dh and exclaimed to the cat ‘look! there’s daddy!’ and completely cemented my weirdness

rockstarshoes · 14/01/2025 19:21

Yes although I have 2 cats, mother & son so if he's naughty it's obviously his real mum's fault! 🤣

I also ask her what's wrong with him if he's a bit off colour but she's not much help!

HereBeWormholes · 14/01/2025 19:26

Yes, yes I do.

But my god, I've got a spoilt kid... 😁

Op clearly asks

So they think either a human has given birth to a cat or , slightly more plausible that a cat is typing reply on mn .

Why would i refer to myself as third person? I wouldn't say owner, I don't believe in owning a sentient being. I'd just Treat! Let's give you a treat! Good kitty!
And jokes are supposed to be funny or clever.

PermanentTemporary · 14/01/2025 19:45

Noooooooooo.

This sort of shite is ridiculous. I own pets.

A young colleague of mine is very much a dog mum with a fur baby and though I like her a lot, it is cringetastic.

BlwyddynNewydd · 14/01/2025 19:47

I'm the house mother. I am the mum to the children. The dogs, the cat and the guinea pigs. But I also feel like the cat is my boss. Out of all the people and animals in my house, the cat causes the least stress and easier to manage.
And I am unhappy if people do not use an appropriate tone when speaking to the cat
