Rehired cat, how long will he hide?

We've just brought home a 6 month old cat. Rehomed as owner couldn't keep full litter. Ran under the bookcase and has stayed there for the past 6 hours. Have offered treats and proper food, not interested.

Any tips? Do we just wait it out?

Ours was out exploring within an hour or so but she then retreated to that room for a week.or.so for sleep but we were warned it could take up to 6-8 weeks.
He's lovely 😍

Yeah I was worried about the fireworks tonight. It hopefully won't be too bad as we live in a very urban area and there doesn't tend to be lots of fireworks generally.
