We lost our beautiful 20yr old cat 3 weeks ago but are adopting 2 lovely black kittens from a shelter

Just wanted to share our ups and downs. Well, the downs and hopefully the ups again!

So many emotions but it boils down to saying goodbye to our gorgeous girl (not unexpected at 20, diagnosed with a tumour 3 months ago) and saying hello and welcome to two gorgeous stray boys. Sadness can turn into joy.

Aww bless you. Sorry about your lovely girl. Your new kittens will have landed on their paws.

I was so upset when our dear ginger boy had to be pts, I cried for days and felt I had let him down. It took a while to process but we then adopted 2 ginger boy kittens and they’ve been a joy.

Black cats are the best.I hope they bring you years of joy and cat snuggles.

Ah thank you both. I’m very, very middle aged and had soooo many stray cats over the years, this little lady lasted the longest! 🐈‍⬛

Aw I love to hear of black cats getting adopted, they are beautiful! I'm so sorry for the loss of your girl, what a great age she was. The little panthers will be very lucky to have you, I hope they bring you years of joy.

OP sorry for the loss of the old lady.
We also had a black cat who we had for 19.5 years, we got her just when we bought our house so we had never been a cat free house. The loss was overwhelming.
We had planned on a 6 month break and spend the time going away a lot while we had the chance. Made the mistake of browsing the cat protection webpages and within 2 weeks we adopted 2 black kittens who were in need- the rescue centre responded immediately as these kittens were 5,5 months old as black ones are always the last to go.
We love black cats !!!!!!

Giving a loving home to black cats is the best.
We still miss our other cats and have photos of them on show, but the new pair being their own presence would not be without them. Never did get around to doing all the weekends away as really don’t like to leave them!
What colour eyes do they have?

@AppleTreeOwner their eyes look very pale green atm. Poor little things.

What are their names?

We haven’t decided yet, they’ve been given sort of temporary names by the shelter but we want to see what their personalities are like first. One is a lot smaller than his bigger brother, but is also a lot braver than the bigger one!

A kittens update! So the two wee fellas came home two days ago and it’s going beyond well!

They are into everything and anything. They were obviously very well looked after and socialised because they aren’t scared or wary. They are just adorable. So far:

• Up the inside of the heater clothes airer.
• All socks from airer (above) removed and deceased.
• In the kitchen sink.
• In all of our wardrobes.
• In/under every bed in the house.
• Obligatory lying on the keyboard as DH is trying to wfh.
• Ignoring of specially bought comfortable beds and favouring a Walkers Crisp box.

Oh they so are! Their personalities are already so different. The smaller one is quite gung ho and straight into everything, his bigger brother is actually just as brave but makes decisions on a more considered basis 🥰

Have you named them yet?

It must have been tough to say goodbye to Ms Snooks after all these years, but what a lovely pair of cats!

Our two meezers have calmed down a bit, but also took a shine to our kitchen airer shortly after arriving. We have a cheap 3-layer one, so I just used to pop a couple of bathmats on it and leave them to it.

@Madcats I’ve put the fluffy new bed under the airer and one has now slept in it (once……)
