Question about Heated Cat Pads

Icequeen01 · 03/11/2024 13:28

Does anyone use heated cat pads/beds? Little Cat is getting on now (we think she's coming up to 15) and she has one of those snuggly cat nests which she sleeps in at night. I'm just worried that she will still feel the cold at night when the heating goes off. She sleeps upstairs but likes to sleep in the study away from my ginger boys. She only weighs just over 2kgs (she's always been this small) and she's smooth haired so doesn't have a nice thick coat. Is it possible to put a heated pad inside her nest for added warmth or am I overthinking this?

My little dog loved my heated throw on the sofa.

They make heated beds and heated huts for cats, as well as pads. I keep one of the huts outdoors in the garden for the stray cat and she often sleeps in it in winter.

DP was horrified at the suggestion I bought an electric blanket or heated throw - wouldn't entertain the idea at all on the grounds that his grandparents said they were dangerous in the 1980s.

Two heated furry animal mats/beds are being delivered tomorrow on the basis of

  1. The Ancient Fluffy One that weighed 1.6kg last week wanting to be in full body contact at all times (1.8kg if you include the woolly jumpers she's wearing now she had to be clipped, so not exactly fluffy at the moment) potentially getting cold whilst we're at work.
  2. It wouldn't be fair on the Giant Fat Git - sorry, the Other Cat - who would probably steal AFO's bed if he noticed it was nice and warm and she looked happy on it.

Assuming I don't burn the house down in the first week, maybe having them will convince him that a throw isn't a bad idea, especially if it keeps cats off our actual heads at night.

@NeverDropYourMooncup Today's heated blankets/throws/pads/pet beds are very safe. I left the outdoor one plugged in nonstop from last December to June, even in damp, and there was no problem (it's under a table next to the shed, a bit out of direct rain, but the cord isn't.) Plugged it in last week and I can see she's been using it after dark.

Your pets will love their new snuggly warm beds.

So I bought a heated pad after all your recommendations. It
arrived this afternoon. Plugged it in about half an hour ago just to check the temperature as per the instructions and this happened......

I've bought the same one(s).

She doesn't love me anymore. Spent the entire night downstairs on it. Spent the entire day whilst I was at work on it. Got off for five minutes to stomp over me, decided she was too cold and got back on it. Got up for three minutes to check if DP had brought any new snacks in for her and to have a pee, then got back on it.

Still on it now.

It was funny when she sat there staring at her paws, trying to work out what was different for the first half hour, but now I'm feeling a teensy bit rejected, realising that it was actually my body warmth that the treacherous little ratbag loved most of all.

yup! I barely see my gorgeous girl Nov- Mar except for food

TheMoonismadeofcheese · 11/11/2024 19:52

Did anyone provide a link? I can’t see one.

cherrytree12345 · 11/11/2024 22:03

OP please can you let us know details of the heated pad you've bought. Nothing like the seal of approval from a real cat 🐈‍⬛

CleanShirt · 11/11/2024 22:08

My boy has one - really helps with his elbow dysplasia. I put it under his little house and rarely see him leave in winter.

Agree!

GOODCAT · 11/11/2024 22:26

Our cat had one of the disk ones you put in the microwave which we put in her bed. She used it constantly in our old house.

Since we moved she sleeps in a human bed and gets in under the covers, she never uses her cat bed nor the microwave disk. We tried putting the disk in the bed, but she just moved bedrooms!

Icequeen01 · 11/11/2024 22:56

I'm so sorry! Just come back to this thread. Here's a link to the one I bought. We went for the second size up and it's perfect for little cat who is tiny but if it had been for my giant gingers it would need to be twice this size.

I was upset to find she didn't sleep on it last night even though it was chilly. She's been toastie in our lounge tonight as I had the log burner on but I've just popped upstairs and turned on her bed ready for when we retire upstairs shortly. She's such a princess!

Do you have a link? My little 2 kg cat would love this, I think.

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner! Yes! I got this one and can't fault it after a couple of cold winters.

And a wooly cat bed is great for keeping on the warmth too. I think I have this one.

A very happy camper but prepare for less lap time.

Question about Heated Cat Pads
cherrytree12345 · 17/11/2024 10:50

Well my cat didn't show any interest at all in her new heated pad. I tried putting a couple of Dreamies on it just to get her to go near it. Even that didnt work she completely ignored it and walked round it rather than on it ☹️

Icequeen01 · 17/11/2024 11:30

Sorry to hear that @cherrytree12345 Have you just bought it?

Little Cat ignored hers for a few days after I posted her sitting on it when we just bought it. However, we have just bought her a snuggly blanket to go on top rather than her nest which she also seems to have shunned. I went to the loo last night and checked on her and she was luxuriously sprawled out on it dead to the world. Don't give up on it. I would just leave it switched on and let it get all the house smells on it. She might then decide to use it having had time to forget it was your idea all along.

Yes OP it arrived on Friday. Maybe she will take to it in time 🤞

BatshitCrazyWoman · 17/11/2024 13:10

Thank you @girlofsandwich

AgnesX · 17/11/2024 13:11

My old boy (18) is currently glued to his (and is also under his blanket as well.

Mathsbabe · 17/11/2024 21:29

My old lady loves hers now the colder weather is here.

Mumsgirls · 23/11/2024 21:54

My four year old big boy loves his, but alternates sleeping between that and my bed. If I go out , often I return to find him snoozing on it whist half watching the neighbourhood through the window.
My late old boy, his predecessor was the same.Worth every penny.
