We've moved house, cats have upset tums

Hi all, I've recently moved house with my 2 old girls, 17 and 18. Both have adapted extremely well, they are Very Interested in everything, but behaving exactly as usual, including ignoring the beautiful new beds I bought them (why did I do that???), preferring to sleep with me like they did at our old house.

Anyway, I digress. The only issue is, they both have very loose poos, bordering on diarrhoea. They are both using the litter tray as neither is venturing outside much, hence I am aware of what they are passing. They are not pooing anywhere other than in the litter tray.

Other than the loose poo, they are both absolutely fine, eating and drinking very well, and I imagine the poo thing might be a response to the move, especially as it's coincided with the move and it's both of them.

If the situation continues or if either starts to appear unwell I will of course take them to the vet, but I was wondering what I could try in the meantime to settle their stomachs.

Ask your vet for some gastro food for a few days and some probiotics. Or you might be able to buy online. Might just be the stress of the move. They need something easily digestible to give their digestive tract a rest and a prescription food is the easiest option.

Thank you so much for your reply, I will do that! I was concerned about changing their diet when everything else has changed, but what you say makes perfect sense. Thanks again 🐾

If they always pooed outside before, are you certain this is new?

doglikescheeseontoast · 01/11/2024 09:36

Pretty sure - the old house was very rural and they spent most of their time outside, coming indoors only at night, so their litter tray was hardly used. BUT, the little they did in there was more formed than this, although always on the soft side.

ProKolin is a great supplement to firm up poo - you can get it off Amazon.

Personally I wouldn't change their diets at all.

Thank you, I shall venture over to Amazon to get some and give it a go.

I was going to recommend this too. It's obviously not to be used if you think there's an underlying issue or poisoning. Pet stores sometimes have it.

Their new beds - and their house! - don't smell familiar. Of course they need your bed.

It's really good, we always keep some in the house just in case. It's saved us a fortune in unnecessary vet visits over the years!

We took a previous cat to the vet with this issue and they gave us protexin pro kolin and said feed steamed chicken for a few days. That sorted her out. We've just last week got a new cat and he's had an upset tummy so same again and so far it seems to be working.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I've ordered the Pro-Kolin.

This was the 2 of them ignoring their fabulous new rainbow beds yesterday 🤣

^ those beds look like the shoes of a giant clown, I don't blame them being suspicious!

Hope the Pro-Kolin sorts them out. My cat LOVES his Colin paste, and the one with the ok stomach was always trying to get in on the act.
