Hi - does anyone know the going rate for someone to come in and feed my cats whilst I'm away? I'm in the North East, if that helps.

Are you recruiting someone, or do you know them?
Once, twice or 3 times a day? Or move in for the duration?
How far would they travel? Are they next door or 50 miles away?
If you have someone, can you ask them or repay the favour at another time?

This is a how long is a piece of string question.

If you have someone you know, then ask them how much they would need to do the job.

If you don't, then have a look on the pet sitting websites and find out how much they charge per visit.

Got on cat in a flat website and find out for your local area. I pay £22 a day for 2 visits.

I'm in London and we have 1 cat . We pay our friend's teenager £5 a visit when we go away and we ask her to come twice a day.

We’ve got 4 and our catsitter comes twice a day. We pay her €25 a day but we’re in Ireland so not sure what the going rate would be locally.

It’s steep but she spends up to 45 minutes with them and gives them dreamies and cuddles. She also spent a couple of hours getting to know them before taking care of them. She did 3 separate visits to let them get used to her with us there. IMO worth every cent.

Not you area but we used Cat in a Flat to find out cat sitter. Managed to find a lovely one.

It will show you prices so you can get an idea of what it will cost.

i pay £28 a day for 2 half hour visits. I pay a professional company because I want the back up of a replacement sitter if my one is unable to come for any reason, someone experienced with cats who can spot issues, they will arrange and take cat to a vet visit if needed and will give medication/ monitor wounds (I have a fighter). And they bring a bag of amazing cat toys to entertain the boys.

Thank you so much for all the replies - they're really helpful. As a family we all usually feed each other's cats but we're all off to the same family event for a week and a trusted friend is stepping in. She says "whatever you feel like giving" and I feel she ought to be paid, so this is very helpful.

I pay my cat sitter £17 a day for 2 visits.
She has all relevant insurances.

LouH5 · 20/10/2024 10:33

I think it depends on how long she is staying. If she’s literally popping in for 5mins to feed them, I’d do £10 a day (assuming she comes twice a day) but if she’s staying for 20-30mins and cuddling them, playing with them etc, I’d do £20/£25 a day for two visits.

Your username has "mum" in it but you are in the north east. Definitely didn't grow up here?!

TwigTheWonderKid · 20/10/2024 14:26

I pay £10 a day for 2 x 20 minute visits but that's my nextdoor neighbour so she doesn't have to travel and she's said she'd do it for free but I think for feeding it's important to have a "commercial relationship"

Sunshineandrainbow · 20/10/2024 14:29

depends on number of visits and distance to travel
1 visit - £10 a day
2 visits - £15 a day

Mishmashs · 20/10/2024 14:58

Our professional sitter is £11 for one visit per day or £20 for two visits.

Sallysoup · 20/10/2024 15:10

Our professional cat sitter is £10 per visit which includes feeding, litter trays, playing, treats and a video if the cats are in. She also puts our bins out on bin day, brings in parcels and post, waters plants if needed.

Favouritefruits · 20/10/2024 18:54

It’s just cost me £120 for three visits a day for three days
