to those who foster how do you cope giving them back or rehoming? I just did a temp foster for a little boy and he’s stole my heart, he’s gone back to his fosterer and I have another one who’s just come in as a stray. He was my first foster cat and I miss him already and I only had him a week, he was the sweetest boy. He’s not ready for adoption yet but the thought of him going to someone who hasn’t got the patience to help him breaks my heart

Can you chage the title of this to include the word cat?

Hi OP,

The first time I fostered I wasn't sure if I'd be able to part with them, it was upsetting to part with them but I did.

It helped that I have 3 rescued ex feral cats and so don't really have the space to keep any even though I mainly foster kittens.

The thing that helped me was that I knew keeping any would mean that I wouldn't have the space to foster anymore kittens in the future so the way I see it is that I give them a good start in life.

A lot of my fosters have been kittens that have been rescued and the best feeling is when you can stroke them and they start purring, at that point I know I've changed their life from being a ferocious kitten who was born and lived outside and didn't trust humans to a happy content little kitten.

It helps that they are going to a rescue.

The night before they leave I tell them that I love them and explain that they are going to rescue centre where they will find the best humans and that as much as I love them if I kept them then I wouldn't be able to help other kittens like I was able to help them, stupid I know but it works for me.

I'm assuming that you've heard of foster fails where people keep the kitten(s) they're fostering, obviously you can't do it all the time but if you have the space/lifestyle and one really steals your heart then you could always ask if you can adopt it 🐱
