When and How To Introduce Kitten to the Outdoors?

Hi everyone.

I have a new kitten, who is now over 4 months old. He is neutered, chipped, wormed and fully vaccinated.

I live on a moderately quiet street in a suburb. I have a back garden but it's not secure, meaning he could get into neighbours gardens/the back entry etc.

Our previous cat passed away in January at the age of 18, so I can't remember how we introduced her to being outside.

I'm scared that he will be run over/attacked by a fox... How do I get him to be an outdoors cat safely? I also don't want a litter tray for much longer either!

4 months is too young, I'd wait at least another couple of months before letting him out.

And you do need to be prepared to keep a litter tray as not all cats like going outside, especially if the weather is bad, and for overnights if you're imposing a curfew.

Oh I didn't know that about 4 months being too young. I was going by what the woman at the RSPCA said. He is very timid, so i am worried for him. He's a real sweetie.

As far as a curfew goes, I am planning to get a catflap, which we never had before, our old cat used to meow to go out/come in. This cat doesn't meow though. Well, he does, but they are silent. He makes the meow movement with his moth/face, but no sound comes out. It's weird.
