How can I tell if wound is healing normally?

My rescue cat came to us almost 3 weeks ago with a small wound on his front leg. When he came it looked dry and almost healed, but you could see a little hole. We didn't think much of it, assumed it was well on the mend.

Well a few times since then he's managed to open it up with licking (we assume) and there's been clear discharge and then it seems to start healing again.

Just before his vet appointment on Monday (booked in for second jab but I asked the vet to check his leg as well) he opened it up worse than ever, to about 50mm in diameter I'd guess.

The vet said he would have to be prevented from licking it and should wear a cone for a week. This hasn't gone perfectly and he has managed to get a few quick licks in before I started covering his leg as well yesterday. But he's surely been licking it less than normal. I've been putting a honey based ointment on twice a day per instructions from vet.

There's been no improvement at all. It's still wet looking and no smaller. I'm going to give him the weekend and phone the vet on Monday but does this sound abnormal or does it maybe just need more time? He's bright in himself, eating and drinking fine. There's no smell or pus or anything, it just looks raw.
