Cat got out of new house - feel like an idiot

We’ve just moved house on Saturday. Cat is normally very clingy and likes to stay close to home, so after a few days we did let her come to the garden with us and she quickly ran back inside.
Tonight I was putting the bins out and left the door open. She came out slowly, I thought she’d just run back in like before but she ran away over the neighbours fence and it’s been almost an hour now.
I feel like such an idiot. We’ve put her litter tray outside the door but I’m terrified she’ll be lost. She is microchipped.

Well, approximately 20 seconds after putting out a can of tuna she appeared wailing at the back door 😁feel silly for posting now but I can’t even delete the thread!

Cats hey 🤣 you can report your own thread if needed. Mine will literally only come in for dreamies. She gets grounded every few days it did nothing

You are not an idiot OP cats, and other animals, are escapologists.

Put her toys outside too, when our dogs got out the vet said they can smell things from 2 miles away. I don’t know how sensitive cats noses are but I’m sure better than humans.

I hope she saunters back from her adventures.

I remember a man I used to work with years ago moved house with their cat, and the cat ran away through an open window almost immediately. They left out his blankets and treats, looked everywhere, printed out pictures for neighbours.

2 days later the people who moved into his old house all the way across town said the cat had shown up in the back garden, let himself in the porch door and lay down for a sleep in the kitchen 😅😅

She can’t have been far at all considering the speed she appeared at as soon as the tin of tuna was put out!
