Moving into a home where a dog previously lived

Moving with my cats soon to a house where a dog previously lived.

Is there anything in particular I can clean with to avoid the dogs scent lingering and being being upsetting for my cats.

I think you're over-thinking things a bit ☺️

Just clean as you normally would , the cats will be fine.

The scent will be there in the carpets if there are any. If its hard floors, less of an issue.

Deep clean any fabrics, wash floors and wipe skirtings.

Use feliway.

Personally I wouldn't buy a house that smelt of dog unless it was a strip out and renovate.

That's reassuring

It's a very clean house - I can't smell dog but my concern is that my cats may and want to lessen any distress that causes.

There was a dog in our house before we bought it but my cats were fine, it wasn't a problem at all

@Woofly just think how many cats live with dogs and socialise with them everyday without an issue - the scent may be strange to them at first but it's highly, highly unlikely to cause long term problems.

Catnip/plug in.
Get the carpets cleaned.
Not much else you can really do.

My parents moved into a house with their cat that had three large dogs living there previously and she was fine. In fact they didn't even do the standard keeping her in for 3 weeks. She strolled out of the back door and found a spot in the garden and that was that. No fuss.

Very reassuring
