Cane downstairs this morning to get breakfast, my cat was down the side of the sofa which is unusual, he (lol wait for it) is always in his favourite spot by the doors. As I looked down I saw what looked like mice on the floor and freaked out. After putting my big girl pants on and looking closer… they are KITTENS. My supposedly male, neutured cat (we got him from a shelter) has had four kittens next to my sofa in the living room.
What do I do?! They are feeding, I’ve put some blankets down, left my cat to it… my cat hates beds and baskets but should I get something/a bed for them to snuggle in? Do I do anything else? I’m in absolute disbelief!!

What's his/her name, OP?

You must've got such a shock.

You started a thread last summer about your new FEMALE kitten. Photo looks like it’s the same cat. What’s going on?
(I’ve forgotten how to do links, hence the screenshots)

Oh dear.

Indeed!

Good spot, @Papergirl1968

Tygertiger · 21/08/2024 10:56

Well that’s an unexpected plot twist.

So the truth is you didn’t spay her in time and she’s got pregnant. Why blame the rescue for mis-sexing the cat? That’s just bizarre. Own the mistake.

KeepinOn · 21/08/2024 10:59

Why even start a thread and open yourself up to scrutiny? Bizarre!

Why didn't you get her spayed?
Hmm

Mitsky · 21/08/2024 11:03

Ooooooo what a twist!

FiveShelties · 21/08/2024 11:04

I suppose this will be yet another thread which will be removed to protect the OPs identity.🙄

Edited to add

Or the cat's identity................

Erm that’s not true. When we first got her (him/her) we were told she was a girl. We went back to the shelter to register her chip and to sign some paperwork to agree we would go back for her/his next vaccinations and at that appointment they confirmed HE was one of triplets in a litter and was neutered and was definitely in fact a boy.
i would never have wanted kittens!!!

(I should have known, my friend had a female cat and then they found a ‘willy’ after being told she was a girl)
i wouldn’t bother posting if I had made it up 😂 I’m genuinely at a loss as to if the shelter actually know or knew and if they did, as a PP said, mix the cats up! Even if you adopt a girl they are chipped and spayed

Papergirl1968 · 21/08/2024 11:10

But she was only 12 weeks when you had her and I thought kittens couldn’t be neutered till they were at least four or five months.

6ixThirty · 21/08/2024 11:10

But isn't 12 weeks very early to neuter or spay?

Moier · 21/08/2024 11:10

Congratulations Cat Mummy .
I got a tiny : She: kitten a year ago.
Took her to be spayed.. ended up he was male and a maine coon. He's huge.. think l got bargain though lol.
Hopefully the shelter will take the kittens when old enough to find new homes...unless you have family and friends.

I don’t know. I have never had a cat before, I just followed what the shelter advised

Amanduh · 21/08/2024 11:13

They said s/he would be neutured after the booster injections

Oh OP what a shock! Thank goodness this lovely girl was somewhere safe with you when she delivered.

I'm a rescuer and we spay or neuter based on weight: it's 2 kilos. We go by weight rather than age.

LadyRoughDiamond · 21/08/2024 11:20

About 15 years ago, our supposedly-neutered rescue cat had kittens. It was quite easy to identify the father as they all looked like the slightly cross-eyed Tom that had been hanging around (‘oh look, she’s made a friend, how lovely’ etc etc). I’ll never forget he was called George Michael. Buckle up OP, it’s going to be a crazy, but amazing few weeks 🩷

ijustneedtokeepbreathing · 21/08/2024 11:22

OMFG.

But they are gorgeous.

Four years ago we adopted two little girls from Battersea and they had both been spayed. They were 7 weeks old when we collected them and had shaven tummy areas. I did think it was very young but apparently it's standard practice.
