What is the least worst dry cat food?

Hey all

New rescue cat age 12 will only eat dry food plus some ham/tuna.

She will NOT eat wet cat food to my great despair and disappointment.

What is the least worst dry cat food please?

Thanks

Mine are on Lily's Kitchen.

Previously were on Applaws, which they liked too, but I freaked out after a recall issue a few years ago.

Mine loves Hills Science Plan Oral Care which he’s been put on by vet to keep his teeth clean.

My two have that. They have Untamed or Purina wet food too.

Two of mine have Purina One. The one who shits all over his floofy nether regions gets Scrumbles. Cat Two likes Scumbles too.

Orijen.

It’s spendy but no cat needs cereals, grains or starches. They’re obligate carnivores and this food is the cleanest I’ve ever found.

Where do you buy it please?

Think pets at home and some online retailers sell it.
Zooplus sells a similar one called Purizon

Scrumbles dry food is good quality and my cat enjoys it. I think they do a seniors formulation.

TheBalletCats · 29/07/2024 08:12

Smilla, Feringa, Applaws, Meowing Heads, Purizon…

One of mine has the Smilla Renal Food; the other is on Feringa Senior. They’ve both enjoyed Applaws & Meowing Heads as younger cats; & my Feringa-fed-feline enjoyed the Purizon he tried.

ZooPlus ftw!

My cat eats Hills. He's never had a choice of other dry food.

I do James Wellbeloved. Senior girl is a dry food addict which isn't the best, she does get some wet as well, but the only way I can get her to take her Yumove is by opening the capsule and mixing it up with the dry so the powder adheres to the kibble. Little One gets some James Wellbeloved too because her poops are firmer when she has some dry. Its grain free and all my cats have done well on it.

@InsomniacIda I buy it in my local Maxi Zoo but I don’t live in UK.

Another vote for Scrumbles.
Worth trying other wet foods too though. Ideally they need both. Dry for their teeth. Wet better overall.

dementedpixie · 30/07/2024 07:26

I found scrumbles kibble size was too small and they just swallowed it without chewing at all. I didn't buy another bag

I buy Orijen from https://www.jurassicbark-online.co.uk/, they usually have the best prices I can find, and deliver quickly.
You can also often get it on Amazon, but it is often more expensive.

It is expensive but lasts a long time (biggest bag is 5.4kg, costs around £55 & lasts my single cat around 5 months) so actually cost effective.

My cat also doesn’t eat wet food, I think I have tried every type available and she refuses them all, even the super spendy ones from the vet. I’ve given up wasting money on wet food now and buy the best quality dry food I can find.

(BTW an unexpected plus is the litter tray is virtually odourless 😻)

Mine is currently on a mixture of Crave and Wild Freedom, both from Zooplus. He will also eat small amounts of wet food but only if it is in gravy, not jelly. I only give him about a third of a pouch at a time as he leaves it and won’t eat it if it has dried out a bit. Everything has to be fish flavour. He won’t eat fresh or tinned fish though.

I’ve spent a small fortune on trialling different foods and I never thought a rescue cat would be so fussy!

Heronatemygoldfish · 04/08/2024 12:17

My blinking fusspots are currently on Purina One Adult. I've spent a good chunk of this year (and of my salary!) trying to find a decent dry they'd eat.
I have tried Purina One kitten (for the MC kitten) and Senior (for the 11+ pair) and none of them liked it. The local shelter got those. Purina One Adult... all of them eat it. SIGH May not be ideal for any of them but...
