Cat water fountains

Do your cats like them?
Are they a waste of money?
Are they noisy?
Any recommendations for one if your cat actually likes one.

Thanks

We bought one when one of our cats had a UTI.
It's the Catit flower one.
Works well, one of our cats uses it all the time - needless to say the cat with UTI took about a year to start using it 🤣.

My next door neighbour has one and her cat uses it all the time whenever I look after him. Not sure what make it is though.

teenagersandatoddler · 24/06/2024 19:07

We have one for our 3 and they love it

Mumdiva99 · 24/06/2024 19:11

My husband bought one for our cats. It's battery powered. I accept no responsibility for it at all. He has to recharge the battery pack, clean it out, keep it topped up. Yes they drink from it. But they also drink from the bowl of water I put next to it. And they drink from the dirty water in the gardens......

A nice gimmick but we survived years without them.

Blackcats7 · 24/06/2024 19:11

I had the catit pixie and my old girl (who had kidney disease so needed to drink a lot) loved it. My new girl refused to have anything to do with it though.

Nicelynicelyjohnson · 24/06/2024 19:14

We have the one in the picture above. Cat loved it the first time as he adores new things. Ignored it ever since. I take it out of the attic every summer for him to try. He remembers it and ignores.

Nejnej · 24/06/2024 19:17

We bought one, was completely ignored 😂

keylimedog · 24/06/2024 19:18

I have a few - my cats love it! They've got filters in and I replace the water often so it's always fresh for them. Mine used to drink dirty puddles outside and ignore their bowls but they love the fountains, they both use them all of the time.

I've got one from Amazon that's totally silent, can't hear a thing. It's a fountain that sits on a base so there's no wires in the water which I like and it doesn't drip (previous ones did!).

Twofifty · 24/06/2024 19:21

My cats dismantle theirs then empty it on the floor, so it's a no from us!

SoEmbarrassed2024 · 24/06/2024 20:21

My cats won't drink from a water bowl unless it has just been put down, but they love their water fountain.

We got a stainless steel one which has a sensor and only comes on for short bursts when they are near it, that makes the battery last longer and minimises noise

Icedlatteplease · 24/06/2024 20:22

We have a stainless steel one. Cats love it

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 24/06/2024 20:24

I’ve got the catit flower one too & my current pair both love it. I clean it weekly & top up the water as needed.

The noise is quite relaxing!

hoarahloux · 25/06/2024 13:03

I have a ceramic fountain from Miaustore, it was expensive but worth it. Close to silent, easy to clean in the dishwasher, no pricey filters to change every month. My cat drinks from it daily.

Floralnomad · 25/06/2024 13:06

Ours love their fountains , we have the Catit Pixi type , one plugged in and one rechargeable both are excellent

LifeGivesYouOranges · 25/06/2024 13:07

I was given one and had almost lost hope as my poor cat wouldn't drink from a bowl but he loves it! It's a cat mate one, it is pretty much silent and costs next to nothing electricity wise. You have to replace the filters monthly but they cost around £15 for a year's supply.

I've had the fountain 5 years and Iove it, would recommend to anyone.

chaostherapy · 25/06/2024 13:14

Tried it and it was a hard no from Dcat. Dcat was quite scared of it, plus it chomped through the usb battery pack (massive, high capacity one) in less than a day so can't be very energy efficient.
I worried about hygiene. I wash Dcat's normal china water bowl every day.
Dcat is happy drinking out of a bowl, filled almost to top, millimeter or two clear of rim.
Editing to add: I use filtered water in Dcat's normal china water bowl so it probably smells less chloriney/chemically than normal tap water.

Fontainebleau007 · 27/06/2024 09:04

I've had a few for my cat over the years and she absolutely loved it. Though we had to take it away last summer because it was just so hard and fiddly to clean. The motor wasn't too noisy but it was in the kitchen so we didn't really notice. I don't have one anymore though just ceramic water bowls.

Breadcat24 · 28/06/2024 15:33

I got one but it was quite noisy and the cat would not go near it! She only drinks out of a (particular) pint glass!

Oneblindmouse · 28/06/2024 16:00

I have this one: Petmate cat fountain
It's several years old now but looks like new as I take it apart and clean it once a week and change the filter monthly. It is mains powered. My cat drinks from it a lot. It's silent unless the water level drops too much, then it whirrs which is a reminder to top it up.

longtompot · 28/06/2024 17:31

Our cat loves hers. We bought it second hand as we weren't sure she would take to it. It only gets noisy when the water gets low.

AltitudeCheck · 28/06/2024 17:34

We have hard water and found it soon looked unsightly, clogged the filter and got progressively noisier. Cats didn't seem very impressed with it either!
