Wood pellets and the Pets at Home Lift and Sift tray...

Hi! We've just adopted two kittens and I'm keen to transition them to using wood litter and a sifting litter tray.

I've searched and searched and can't find a definitive answer.... can the Pets at Home Lift and Sift tray (this one) be used with wood litter?

I'm thinking of using this litter, if that makes a difference: https://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter/cats_best/37604?variantId=37604.4&abd=true&activeVariant=37604.4

If not, can anyone recommend a sifting/sieve litter tray that works with wood? Preferably with high-ish sides as one kitten seems to keep overshooting the edge on the very shallow tray we're currently using.

Oh, and photo for cat tax.

Thanks so much.

I thought that sort of tray was specially designed for wood pellet litter. It turns to sawdust when they pee on it and the sawdust is what gets sifted out.

Absolutely adorable kitties!

Thanks so much! I wasn't sure if that specific tray was for clumping litter instead of wood, and it doesn't seem to say on the website. My nearest Pets at Home is miles away so I was hoping to avoid a wasted journey.

I've got the same tray and use wood / grass pellets - they don't turn to sawdust, they mould into big clumps which can be scooped / sieved out. As an aside I tried that particular litter and absolutely hated it as it tracked and scattered everywhere even with a deep tray!
Edit: Oops apologies it was Cats Best Original I tried. Looks like all my opinion above is worthless!!

It'll work but in the opposite way to clumping litter, where you lift out the sifter and tip the clumps into the bin. With wood pellet litter, the good stuff will stay in the sifter and the urine-soaked sawdust will fall through into the tray. And it won't work for poo, lol.

That's great, that's what I expected (for the sawdust to fall through). And yes, I'll continue to scoop the poop! 😀
