Does anyone have an implement to open the living room door to let the cat out without getting off the sofa?

As it says, our cat comes in and out 20 times a night and I have to get up to let them out.
Does anyone have a tool to enable me to open the door without leaving my sofa?
I don't want to have another cat flap.
TIA

A servant? That might be the best answer!

BrightLightTonight · 03/05/2024 22:11

Cut their legs off?

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 03/05/2024 22:12

Another cat who’s tall enough to open it for you even if you don’t want him to.

Anniegetyourgun · 03/05/2024 22:15

We have the perfect solution. We don't shut the living room door. Low tech, low maintenance, low price.

PuneorPlayonWords · 03/05/2024 22:17

Aren't you the cat's implement?

Cat flap in door

Itsgoingtobeaspecialday · 03/05/2024 22:22

We installed cat flaps in all our internal doors

ILikeDungs · 03/05/2024 22:23

I text my DH.

Also when I need a log for the fire.

But only if the other cat is on me, rendering me paralysed.

I want something with a handle like a litter picker that I can use to open and close the door.

I simply don't shut any internal doors any more (apart from the bathroom when it's in use, I do have some boundaries).

If you have wee cunt cats like mine they don't care if it's open a little for them. They shoulder barge the fucker wide open, walk in like they've burst open a saloon door in a western, then fuck off again immediately.

Like I say OP, cat flaps in all your doors. Your life will be changed forever.

We installed a cat flap so that we could shut the door. But then we had to prop the cat flap open because the cats require staff to open such things for them.

CheeseyOnionPie · 03/05/2024 22:24

I haven’t closed a door in 13 years

BubbleTroubled · 03/05/2024 22:27

I use a door stop so that's it's propped open a bit but they can't push it fully open. If I shut it then the scratching to open the door drives me nuts!

Iloveanicegarden · 03/05/2024 22:28

Self closing hinges to draw the door too, then put one of those rope type things around the door attached to the handles to keep the door slightly open so cat can come and go. Do remember though that you are the staff the cat is in charge of.

Long handled shoehorn from ikea, has a hook at one end.....would that work🤔

Aussiegold · 03/05/2024 22:29

My dad used to have a piece of string tied to the door knob, so he could pull it to open........and the extra long card board tube from the christmas foil so he could lean across and close it again.

A bit Heath Robinson, but those cats quickly worked out who their favourite human was when he retired!

Handicap Door Opener for Disabled People, Low Energy ADA Swing Door Operator with Stainless Steel Handicap Push Buttons a.co/d/dAP3Zjy

You need something like this... keep the button by the sofa or link to smart home with the command "Alexa let the bloody cat out"

Cat flap in the living room door?
One of our cats pushes the door wide open but never closes it behind him so we joked that should get a cat flip in the door.

DrJonesIpresume · 03/05/2024 23:32

They get on my wick. Yesterday I opened the patio door at the back to let one cat in. He immediately walked straight through the house and demanded to go out of the front door. There's a perfectly good exterior route to go from back to front, but that would have involved negotiating fences and some effort on his part, so he got me to act as door slave instead. Lazy git.

olderbutwiser · 03/05/2024 23:37

We leave the door open for the cats of course, but to ensure our heating bills stay low (so we can afford the most expensive and delicious cat food) we put up a curtain in the door space in winter. The curtain has the corner buttoned back so they can just walk through without any effort and DH and I can stay slobbing on the sofa
