Is our kitten always going to be anti-social?

Hey everyone

So background- we have 5 cats already- 2 9 year old cats and 3 kittens ranging from 7-3 months.

The three kittens came at different times but all were pretty social and confident early on. After a day or two they were seeking us out and having cuddles.

I got our final kitten from a tica registered breeder at 13 weeks. A longhair bsh, my dream colour too. He was timid when we got him but breeder assured us he was a cuddly kitten.

He has now been home for a week. He has integrated beautifully with our cats- plays with them, sleeps with one of them and seems content. HOWEVER he runs away from all of us, only tolerating some strokes when he's half asleep. He won't go on our laps.

What do I do? Is there anyway he could become more sociable and confident with humans or will he always be this timid? Have I just been very lucky with the others?

Thanks so much!

He’s gorgeous but please stop collecting cats. They actually need your individual attention..

This.
What's with the numbers, no wonder the new one doesn't get on. It's joined a cat prison.

Gorgeous kitties. We have a similarly scaredy cat. She's 1 now and still won't let us pick her up but she does now rub against our legs and let us stroke her.

Cat prison? Really? Wow.

ignore the people judging and saying stupid stuff. ‘cat prison’ .. what an odd thing to say. If I could afford to have 6 cats, I so would!

I think it might be too early to tell. It could be that they are just a little shy and getting used to everything and will come out of their shell in no time. Or this could just be their personality. We got a 1 year old cat a few years ago who wouldn’t come anywhere near us. He still isn’t as affectionate and social as our other cat, but has got a lot better with time now that he’s used to us ☺️

I just find it bizarre when they don't know our house or garden size or how often I'm at home. Just bizarre!

@HomelyK that photo is adorable! 😍

Cat prison indeed - people need to get a grip of themselves 😂

I do love a snooty, standoffish cat!

Sorry-not helpful!

noclouds · 01/05/2024 10:53

Our two cats came from the same home at the same time and one is sociable and cuddly, the other is so scared of everything and rarely lets people cuddle her and definitely won't let anyone pick her up.

Each cat has there own personality

WhereAreWeNow · 01/05/2024 11:51

Exactly the same here @noclouds

Ignore the silly comments. Your cats are gorgeous. I would have way more cats if I could but my grumpy old man would not be pleased. He is still cross about the one that joined us 4 years ago!
Next time I’ll get 2 at the same time though so they can play together.
Also, you’re always welcome on the running cat chat on here - the Machiavellian one. We’re all cat mad and there is no silly judging, just happiness and support.

You shouldn't have multiple cats in a household? Oh dear.

I'd better go and ask my four which three of them want to move out. They're all asleep curled up on my bed together at the moment, so I'll pop up and ask.

fantasmasgoria1 · 01/05/2024 14:50

You kitten just needs time. Some cats love fuss and lap time from early on, some take a while and some never do. He will get there .

They have formed a lovely bond already. He actually came up for an hour cuddle with my husband last night and sat on my sons bed whilst he was doing his reading. ❤️
