Why do cats have clear favourites in the house?

We have an eight month old cat, I feed him, change his litter, open his cat flap, take him down every morning for breakfast... yet it is one of our DC that he just adores Grin DS is 6, and the kitten sleeps next to his head every night, we have even caught him grooming ds by licking his hand or head in the night lol. He doesn't really like being cuddled or held, unless it's by ds who he will let hold him like a baby for hours on end and sit in his knee purring.

Our other DS doesn't get a look in, it's a very different kitten/child relationship, as kitten only wants to play with our youngest ds. Kitten drops cat toys at his feet like a puppy, or get the zoomies with him.

The kitten is not at all interested in me and dh, it's funny really. I wonder how they choose their favourite people

Cats have favourites because they are little arseholes who only please themselves! 😂😂

the only person in our family who gets a look in with our cat is dh. It sits next to him, cuddles into him , if anyone else sits next to her, she looks in disgust!

he was the only one in the house who didn’t want a cat either!

Ha! Yes, Cat1 loves DD2 with a crush-like enthusiasm and Cat2 doesn't give anyone the time of day apart from me, and follows me around like a dog.

Zonder · 26/04/2024 23:04

Cats! There's no way of knowing what goes on in their little minds.

DH does all the cat work and yet is totally ignored. DD does nothing and gets all the love.

Anniegetyourgun · 27/04/2024 09:02

Oh, that's easy. Your DS is his companion. You are just the servant.

soupfiend · 27/04/2024 09:07

Our cat is so different with each of us. So she is fed by OH (overfed), he talks to her like a baby and she loves to sit on his knee, she never sits on my knee

But she does climb on me to kneed, for ages at a time, but will never do that with him.

One of ours who has lived with us for 5 years, and was previously DHs cat decided to switch allegiance a few months ago and is now Ds's cat. Like she is currently yowling outside his bedroom for him to wake up and go into his room where his computer is so she can drape herself over him for the day.

FknOmniShambles · 27/04/2024 09:32

Oh absolutely. I've been serving the ginger Prince for twelve years. OH moves in and the cat is smitten! Still comes to me for his cuddles but desperate for his dad's validation. Follows him round the house, presents him with socks, runs down the stairs and falls over onto his back when he gets home. Unbelievable.

Cats are fickle little traitors who know they will be adored by their servants regardless.

It's taken over 3 years but my Mama cat now cuddles up next to me anytime I sit down even though the hounds who are usually attached to me try to make her run. Her offspring is a grumpy bint and only entertains me because I pass her ham out the kitchen window.

We are lucky at the moment as we are "forced " to share her, playing fetch we have to take it in turns to throw the toy or it will not be returned until thrown by the correct person. Purdey snuggles with DP downstairs watching TV but snuggles with me in bed. She loves when we all snuggle on the sofa under a blanket and she can lie in between us!

VikingLady · 02/05/2024 15:03

People have favourites too, we just try not to show it too much. Cats have zero manners!

One of our cats absolutely worships DD but can't see the point of the rest of the family's existence, the other follows me around but will sleep with DS if he has something furry on his bed. They're weird.

Aw sounds like she loves you both and thinks you're her mama (kneeding/nursing)
Our cats do that to me too but not my husband (they do snuggle up against him though)

AnnaMagnani · 02/05/2024 19:24

In my house I am the favourite for both of them because I put the effort in.

DH feeds them so twice a day he is their favourite.

But the rest of the time it's me because I do the cuddles.

Clarich007 · 03/05/2024 16:33

Strange creatures.
I do all the donkey work, feeding, littertrays, clearing cat sick and fur balls up.
Taking to vets etc, yet my husband is clearly the favourite
Little furry weidos the lot of them !
