Hi, I have an 11 month old British Shorthair, he has never been a fussy eater, Up to now!

Over the last three weeks he is suddenly refusing all wet food, Tried him with a few different ones and he looks at me like I have done him some great harm! At most he will sniff it then walk away.

He will still eat dry food.

Been to the vet and nothing is wrong.

Is this a phase? Is feeding only dry ok?

First time cat owner here..

A pic of him to go with the thread.. Not sure who bit my lamp and made it all wonky lol

Edit.. He's a cat not a bloody car haha

He's gorgeous! My cats would love to have wet food but I hate the smell. Theyve been on dry food only for 2 years and are honestly fine. If you get a quality one it's fine to just feed them that.

Many cats eat dry only, I think decent brands are better quality than most wet foods.
Lovely cat!!

Oh my, he is gorgeous. I came to advise petrol/diesel/electricity for your car, but honestly that magnificent beast can have whatever he wants. Grin

My cat 16+ will only eat dry food.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 06/04/2024 20:13

My girl won't touch wet food - some cats just don't like it. If the vet has given him the OK, as long as he's eating plenty of dry food, I don't think you should worry. He might decide he likes it again in a few months' time.

Absolutely gorgeous blue boy you have there 😻

He certainly looks like he know his own mind… who are you to deny him?! 😀

You’ll never win a battle of wills with a cat so buy some nice Arden grange and wait until dry food is poison.

Also, the lamp is clearly faulty through poor manufacturing processes. Not the cats fault.

I have one cat who will only eat felix cat soup so I try and encourage him with that as if he has only dry he gets chunkier unless I strictly limit quantities.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/04/2024 20:25

Out of the four cats I've had, only one will eat wet food. And only Sheba flakes.🙄 she will not touch any other brand.

The only issue with just feeding dry food to male cats is that it can increase the likelihood of urinary issues.

So make sure he gets a good quality dry and has access to plenty of water. I would also see if he'd eat things like cat soups or lick-e-lix to try and get his fluid intake up.

Did you try something new? My boy was eating blink as a kitten. I bought one box of adult and thought id try untamed. After 1 tin of untamed he refused blink.
