The one who must be led to the food bowl

Anyone else’s cat like this? We have one who is (relatively) normal and just goes to get food when he’s hungry. The other one demands you take him there and physically show him. Every. Single. Time.

If you ignore him or try to get on with something else he climbs up your legs and gives you a very stern look with some cross words thrown in.

Yes, my cat is like this. He'll forget that he hasn't finished his breakfast, then come and pester me and I then have to walk over with him to the bowl to show him there's food in the bowl.

Bamaluz · 12/03/2024 20:35

I have to take the dish of food to the cat and stick it under his nose, wherever he is.

Loving these 'forgetful' cat overlords!
No cat tax paid yet....

Mine does this. It's my own fault - when he was a tiny kitten his legs were so small that when we woke up in the morning I would carry him to his bowl as it was all the way up the hall. Now he's an enormous cat he demands I walk him there. He will even walk PAST the bowl just to come and pester me to walk him to it!

If I'm asleep in bed and he wants walking to his bowl, he will do anything to get my attention. Including shredding the toilet roll. Here he is, along with some of his finest work.

My girl wants me to gently rub her head while she eats. And prefers a “starter” of two Dreamies before she tucks in to her main.

All reasonable requests.

Sometimes His Lordship will just stare at his food and walk away from it, but when we put it somewhere else it's completely new and exciting and he'll scoff it all.

These are hilarious! 😂 Who are any of us to question our furry overlords’ needs?

Very similar to mine. Here is her approved routine in the morning:

  1. She jumps on top of me to wake me up
  2. I go downstairs and put her wet food (Meowing Heads) in the bowl; it is ignored
  3. I have to ceremonially unlock the French doors and go out to the garden, with encouragement she finally follows me out and spends a couple of minutes eating grass, we both go back inside
  4. She throws up the grass (optional)
  5. I put 7 Dreamies in her Catch feeder, which she wolfs down
  6. Finally she will eat her wet food

I absolutely love all of your cats. Mine just eats her food 😂

caringcarer · 13/03/2024 21:40

My female cat just sits and looks at me until I lift her over to her food bowl. Her big flooffy brother gobbles his food down then eats the bits she leaves.

ScrotumGantry · 13/03/2024 21:46

I've got one of these. Consider his thinking-

Scenario A: he walks me to the food bowl in case it needs filling.

Scenario B: he goes to the food bowl, discovers it's half full empty and then has to go back and get me and ealk me back to the food bowl.

A saves him time and effort. B is easier for me as 98% of the time there is food there - but he still remembers the anguish and torment of that 2% and can't face it again. Also he doesn't give a shit if it's effort for me.

At the risk of hijacking the thread, there is also the refusal to use the cat door and instead sit plaintively outside the sliding garden doors. Then, when opened, there must be a pause to be stroked before entering the house.

😂Mine does this one.

I use a measuring scoop to put his dry food in the bowl which incidentally he's waiting with his face 2 inches from it. Every time I put the food in the bowl he looks up at me with a face that says "is that it?"

If I scratch his back when he's eating he eats faster. It's like the game Hungry Hippos.
