Both spot on? Cat caught a rat so I dewormed with profender the other night as she was due a top up but now there are signs of fleas. Can I use stronghold spot on now? Only a week late with strong hold treatment so far and already they have made an appearance!!

I suspect not.

But I'd contact your vet for definitive guidance on this rather than relying on me (or any other Internet random account.) for advice.

Yeah I've emailed them but they've not got back to me yet

I was told you need to leave a while. As it's too many chemicals in a short space of time.

I am always told to leave 1 week between stronghold and provender treatments

*Profender
Stronghold plus is also a wormer so giving them too close together would be overdosing

They have completely different active ingredients, so there is no overdose risk.
It is unlikely the interaction has ever been fully evaluated in any formal clinical studies, however I have just managed to find a reference supporting the combination of these products without issue.

Well my vet says to leave 1 week between applications so that's what I'll continue to do (stronghold is monthly but profender is every 6 months as stronghold also protects against some worms)

@CreatingHavoc would you not be better phoning the vet to get a quicker answer

CreatingHavoc · 11/03/2024 11:41

Just to update this, the vet said that as profender just treats tapeworm and stronghold does fleas and other worms, the only risk of giving them close together is that the 2nd product might not work as well if their fur is still sticky from the 1st treatment. So I waited until her fur looked almost normal (after about 5 days) and used the stronghold with no issues.
