Would you offer a reward for info on a lost cat?

Our cat went missing a few days ago, we've tried everything, flyers in shops, posts on local facebook sites, asking neighbours to check sheds, flyers through letter boxes, litter tray in the garden, roaming the streets calling her, talking to neighbours...and not a single positive sighting.

She is chipped and her details are up to date, we've called all the local vets.

She's a mainly indoor cat, never goes far and never goes for more than an hour. We're at a loss of what else to do. Any ideas please? Would you offer a reward?

No, you’ll just get timewasters who want the reward. Anyone who has genuinely seen your cat will call you.

Hope she’s home soon.

No. You'll open the doors to scammers and time wasters.

I meant to add, I've had a few cats go walkabout over the years and they always turned up within a few metres of home.

One turned up in next doors shed - about a metre from our garden wall (which he could easily jump over) - hiding behind a lawnmower. He was near impossible to see and I only knew he was there as he came out slightly when I called, shouted and ran back in - DH had to go in with a head torch and it took him ages to find and grab him!

If you go for a reward, only for the return of the cat. Literally, they are handing him to you!

Check your insurance (if you have it). Some do offer a reward if the cat is missing, which will likely have the terms under which they will pay out.

So strange, she just appeared next to the sofa last night, she’s clean, not hungry, not wet, doesn’t smell. She’s got a bald spot on her head, less than the size of a 5p. We may never know what happened, but feels so good to have her home. Thanks everyone for your kindness, advice and positivity. I’m not going out today, I’m just going to stare at the cat all day 😉.

Do you think she was stuck somewhere in the house? I know my cats can squeeze themselves into the most unlikely of places!

anightstale · 03/03/2024 11:08

I don't think so, it's not a massive house and we'd have seen or heard her.

We offered £100 reward for the return of our cat, it got the local teenagers looking and one found him. it was definitely worth it as he'd been missing 10 days when he was found and we were loosing hope.
