Has anyone tried making puréed meals in gravy for fussy cat?

Hi all,

I'm just about giving up on getting my cat to eat any commercial wet food. He eats some dry Royal Canin every day but his appetite has fallen, he's lost weight and he needs more. (He's hypothyroid.) he is definitely hungry but he won't eat the 'meat' in the commercial food. He'll only lick off the gravy or jelly.

I got him as a rescue aged about 5 and he's never been willing to eat human food e.g. a piece of chicken, tuna, cheese, beef etc. I don't know why this is but I've recently tried Untamed and Seriously Good. I can see that they both contain good, real food but there isn't a lot of jelly/gravy so he won't eat them at all.

I have some Blink coming later today but I'm not optimistic.

I'm wondering whether I could purée meat or fish, make a good gravy and mix them. That way there would be no pieces and he might eat it.

Has anyone tried?

It won't contain the minerals and vitamins that he needs as that comes from organs and bone iirc. Unless you mean puree the cat food? That would be fine. Or mix a pate food with a broth, Churu do cat broths and I think there's one in the Seriously Good range too.

If he likes a lot of gravy, I've found that Lily's Kitchen shredded fillets are very thick with gravy, especially the tuna salmon one and the chicken with mussels.

Add lick-e-lix style puree treats to his food to make it wetter? They're very light on calories and high in moisture. And cats love them.

Many thanks.

I know it won't be a complete diet but he has Royal Canin dried food always on offer and can get the things he needs from that (if he'll eat enough).

He has a tube of Lickylix twice daily with his thyroid meds, and so I don't really feel comfy mixing more with wt food. I think he would just lick it off and leave the rest.

I'll have a look at the Lily's Kitchen shredded fillets, thanks. He rejected their pate but maybe he'll try the fillets.

Thanks for replying.

This is the broth I mentioned, it's not much nutritionally but might tempt him!

Thanks! I'll try that 👍🤞

Mine love gourmet gold pate, especially melting hearts., it's really smooth.
