If we go away for 3 nights can the cat flap sense when she is back in and shut?

The one I've got won't sense when the cat's back in, but you can set it to lock one way (ie going out) at a particular time while it is still open the other way (ie coming in). So your cat can come in at any time but not back out again until it is set to unlock again, if that makes sense. It's called a Sureflap.

Melstarrynight · 08/02/2024 07:40

We have a WiFi enabled one that is controlled by phone app. It's brilliant. It's a sure flap one.

Packageholiday · 08/02/2024 22:30

@Pigeon257.. Thanks so can that work if we go away for a few nights?

Packageholiday · 08/02/2024 22:31

@Melstarrynight what's prompted this is a 3 nights away and we don't have cat sitter or cat flap.

With yours can we monitor her and let her out and shut it in the pm when she comes back in??

We also have the Sureflap connect Wi-Fi one. It's fab, but pricey, usually around £200. I never thought I'd pay so much for a catflap, but it does give peace of mind and I like that we can go out for long days and remotely lock it to "entry only", knowing that he'll be safe until we get home.

thesandwich · 08/02/2024 22:35

we locked our catflap on fireworks night so the cat would not get out. Thug cat just battered his way out…..

lifeispainauchocolat · 08/02/2024 22:52

I hate to say it but please don't leave your cat alone for three days with nobody checking in on her.

I agree, if you can't get someone to at least check in every day, please book her into a Cattery.

Scampuss · 08/02/2024 22:57

3 nights is too long really without anyone checking in. How will you provide fresh food and water, clean the tray, let alone if she's ill or has an accident?

If you do go ahead and leave her, she will need time to learn how to use the flap, some cats take to it instantly, others take months (mine took months to use hers fully for in and out), so assuming you've factored that in, you've probably got time to find a pet sitter anyway.

Concestor · 08/02/2024 23:02

You can't leave your cat alone for that long, it's cruel and irresponsible. You need someone to come in and feed it. Post on your local Facebook groups and find someone.

Jonismorf · 08/02/2024 23:08

Hopefully a friend or neighbour will be popping in to feed her during the day? The SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect & Hub does all you need - you can assign up 5 (I think) cats to the microchip recognition and you can set in/out times for each of them. We have ours on no outsies after 8pm, but they can all still get in at any time. Be aware that they make quite a loud click when the locks engage/disengage - it took a couple of ours to few days to get used to this. Also, get very good quality AA batteries to power it, or use the supplied mains if you've got a close enough socket. Thanks so much for the cattery advice.

Of course we have tried and all booked up and our usual sitter is not here hence we are looking at a cat flap.

OP posts:
Packageholiday · 09/02/2024 08:39

She has automatic release food machine? She uses now and bowls of food left out. She also has a cat water fountain already on a timer and water left out.

OP posts:
Packageholiday · 09/02/2024 08:41

Are they easy to fit it will be into a pvc door

OP posts:
Packageholiday · 09/02/2024 08:42

@zurala thanks for your comment.

She's got a feeder that's automatic and we have a little cat cam set up that's motion sensor

OP posts:
Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 09/02/2024 08:59

Please post on your local facebook group and see if someone can look in on her, I look after two or three regulars in my local area, its not just the feeding and company etc, I mean hopefully she won't but what happens in a medical emergency? If she gets in a scrap on day one that's three days of potential infection. Be cheaper than a wifi catflap!

lifeispainauchocolat · 09/02/2024 09:20

An automatic feeder and a water fountain won't keep her safe if the cat flap fails or your WiFi stops working, or if she gets sick or hit by a car.

You need to find someone to pop in on her, even if it's only once a day.

Scampuss · 09/02/2024 10:02

What @lifeispainauchocolat said. It's too long to rely on tech kit.
