How big are my girls going to be?

I adopted my twins when they were 9 weeks old from a friend of a friend. Situation was - mum is a gorgeous ginger main coon and an indoor cat. Dad is a black British short hair who got in the house via an open window and impregnated mum. Owner never wanted kittens (I have no idea why she didn't have cat neutered but I guess it's because she is an indoor cat). My twins are now 9mths old and weighed 4.5kg and 4.9kg on 30/11 when I took them to the vet to be weighed for their flea and worming meds. Vet nurse came out and asked me if they were main coon and I obv told her they were half (on my vet plan and on their insurance I stated that they are half mc / half bsh) They are absolutely wonderful, clever, very affectionate, fabulous siblings and great company. They are neutered and only go out on a lead every day as I haven't got a cat proof garden and worry about them being stolen. They have plenty of play stuff indoors to keep them active. They eat three pouches of whiskas kitten food plus applaws dried food always available. I've had cats all of my life but these girls are so big! They haven't got the main coon ruff but I read that they don't grow until over a year old. They don't have long fluffy hair. Just wondering how bloody huge my girls are going to get!

Do you mean dad was a British Shorthair (purebreed) or a domestic Shorthair (moggy)?

Either way their weight is certainly on the heavy side for young female cats, and with a MC mum they may not have finished growing yet.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats
Yes dad is a pure breed British short hair. Mum is a stunning ginger pure breed Main Coon.

I've not seen the dad - pure breed black British short hair apparently so I only know what the owner told me. He is next door neighbours cat. I did see the mum - a beautiful ginger Main Coon.

The kittens' Mum's next door neighbour, not mine.

They're gorgeous 🥰. Sorry I can't answer your question OP but suspect they are taking after mum.

Well, BSH's are chunky cats and Maine coins are huge, so yes, I should think they're going to be pretty chunky!

My bengal boy weighs 7kg...

@Igmum yes they are gorgeous thank you. They are fabulous company and a source of endless entertainment. I just wonder how big they are going to be! It obv doesn't matter but I'm just curious. I've only had moggies before (kittens and rescued adults) and they were tiny in comparison to these two.

@Blueuggboots my friend has a beautiful bengal who is equally massive! He has a cattery and takes her for walks on a lead, like I do. Amazing cats (like they all are in their own way).

I think female Maine Coon's tend to be around 6kg on average, but some get a LOT bigger. At 9 months the rate of growth should be slowing, but not fished yet by a way.

My friend has 2 moggies, mother is about 3.5kg moggie & no idea of father, and they are about 7.5 and 8kg. The smaller(!) one is slightly overweight, but the bigger one isn't overweight at all.

Look at it this way - bigger live furry hot water bottles in winter! 😉

aitchteeaitch · 02/02/2024 17:46

Judging by the size of their ears, I think they probably haven't done growing yet! Difficult to tell from the angle of the photo, but they look like they have quite long legs as well.

sawnotseen · 02/02/2024 18:06

@Allergictoironing yes they do have long legs and long ears!
