Litter tray - where do you keep yours?

We have two cats, aged 8 and 7. The younger has developed some mysterious skin condition which may be an allergy so he’s had to become a house cat. The older girl was almost a house cat anyway so she’s not bothered about being kept in. Obviously this means that we now have two well used litter trays, but I’m absolutely fed up of not having them tucked away somewhere discreet. We don’t live in a massive house with loads of storage space so they’ve ended up by the back door in the kitchen, which I really don’t like.

Where do your litter trays live and how are they not an unintentional feature of the house?

Sitting room

Cat One and Two had a system where they used one box for wee, one for poo. On the arrival of Cat Three, Cat One refused to use the litter box he used do I keep three boxes. We could probably get away with two boxes now they’re used to each other, but three boxes is less smelly than two.

One in downstairs loo and one in garage with a cat flap from the house.

Covered litter box, in the front hall. Pros: tiled floor, cool, relatively easy to carry outside to disinfect 2 x week. Cons: rinky stink stinkster. Contemplating moving it to the upstairs loo, but wonder what she-who-must-be -indulged-rescue cat would make of being shut out of the bathroom by teenagers???

We have one in the living room under the window. Very picturesque! However it is somewhat masked by the large tree, tent and tunnel, dog bed and two cat beds. It’s a covered one with a flap. They both use the same one during the day but the kitten has a little one in her pen where she sleeps at night. They are in the living room most of the time because we keep the door shut to keep the heat in. They’ve never really had the run of the house. The eldest one is 3 in April but we only came to us last March and the kitten arrived on Christmas Eve. These are our first cats so we are still finding our way.

I live in an area with a lot of exotic cats. It is quite rare to see an ordinary cat. They all seem to be housecats let out for brief periods. Our neighbour's Birman visits wearing an airtag on his collar. I think they mostly go home to use their litter trays. I don't think our old Birman ever realised she could "go" outdoors. I suspect my Tonkinese doesn't know either. We keep her tray in the laundry. We tried a bedroom and a bathroom before settling on the laundry.

In a corner in the bathroom, he only uses it at night when shut inside.

My 2 share 1 tray. Never had any issues. It's in the corner in the kitchen.

Yeah I've only got 1 tray for 2 cats. No problems whatsoever

Mine is at the far end of the kitchen, under a window by the rubbish bin and well away from all surfaces, food cupboards etc. I don't really notice it (it's also a covered one).

Same here.
