I'm amazed that the first thread has filled up. So he's another thread about the inmates of Toddler Towers!

My friend said I'd have to choose who to give up.Hmm He thought it would be cheaper to give up
Penelope. Err no.
The vet said to take her back this morning if the not pooed. But she's had two big wees, and is loads happier, she's got an appointment tomorrow morning anyway for her eye, so I'll leave it for today.
My parents are coming to stay today till Thursday, which will be stressful for us. We get on very well. But my house is tiny and it's a bit much.

I think a short course of gabapentn might be a good idea, when she goes to the cattery. She was petrified when I picked her up last time. And she'll be there for longer this time.

I'd suggest gabapentin now. It did wonders for my boy when he was terrorised by a dog and was so stressed he got cystitis. He slept for ages and then emerged chilled.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/06/2024 11:44

The vet has given me some, and she's back to normal! It's also made me realise just how poorly Cheddar was. And that the gabapentin for her, was a complete red herring.
I'm hoping if we can break the cycle of anxiety, and re introduce more slowly. It might work.

OccasionalHope · 02/06/2024 12:03

Oh dear, I do hope you can work it out. They’re both such lovely cats.

Soubriquet · 02/06/2024 12:07

I do hope it works too. It would be a shame to have to give him up since he seems like a lovely cat. Maybe start right back from the basics and take it slower.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/06/2024 12:10

There are other anxiety meds for Pen too including probiotics and tryptophan-inducing natural things ...

I have two difficult rescues and have used these with some success.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/06/2024 12:21

He is a lovely cat. I just with I could explain it to each of them! However if he dies have to go back. He had other interest in him, so would find a home quickly. And I could at least give the rescue more details about what he's like in a home environment. (Greedy, messy, but as good as gold)

She's pooed!!! Phew. Not huge, but it's a start. She's currently avoiding having her eyedrops, which is completely normal Penelope behaviour. It turns into a battle of wits. I've moved her stuff out of my bedroom to the spare room. As the parents are staying. And I think she'll prefer to be with me.

Soubriquet · 02/06/2024 18:30

Well that’s brilliant news! One small step for cat kind

SoDoffYourHat · 02/06/2024 19:02

Yay!💩

Toddlerteaplease · 02/06/2024 19:12

She's also given me the run around, trying to get her meds in her. Poor Paddington's crying at being confined to the lounge is breaking my heart.

OP posts:
YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/06/2024 19:24

My boy cat cries if I am behind a closed door. It’s heart wrenching but I just make sure he gets extra treats and fusses when I’m available.

SaggyOldClothDog · 02/06/2024 21:38

My neurotic house panther gets panic stricken if our living room door is ever shut.
To be fair, when it is shut, it's usually flea stuff time 😂
I think generally though, cats view closed does as some sort of personal slight.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/06/2024 21:55

Ears still a bit flat. But s
Definitely happier and eye seems to be improving.

Very good! She does look grumpy though bless her

OccasionalHope · 02/06/2024 21:57

I wonder if the anxiety about Pads is worse when she’s not feeling well anyway.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/06/2024 22:34

Yes. I did wonder about that. He's just escaped from the lounge and sat at the top of the stairs watching her, and she sat on my bed watching him. Neither moved. I picked him up and carried him into the bedroom, she came up to investigate, hissed and walked away. It seemed fairly positive. She's looking for him at the minute. But he's safely downstairs. My parents have completely taken over the house so we are both a bit stressed. 😹

Toddlerteaplease · 03/06/2024 01:01

@Soubriquet I think she's wondering why on earth my parents have to bring so much stuff.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 03/06/2024 09:10

He's escaped a couple of times. So I've held him and sat on the bed. Penelope reacted well. Vet at 9.45

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 03/06/2024 11:35

Vet has given me more gabapentin for when she goes to the cattery. We've agreed that if it flares up again, then further investigation is needed. Going to try the introductions again from scratch. My mum is already lining up another home for him. I'm not optimistic but their negativity, is not helping.
Pads is getting distressed being confined to the lounge. So it's not really fair on him.

  • the eye ulcer that is.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/06/2024 11:44

As much as you love your folks I'm not sure that having them there is helping :(

Toddlerteaplease · 03/06/2024 13:03

No, it really isn't. I don't t enjoy having them to say. Soley because we are on top of each other. Ideally they'd stay in a hotel but that's a bit cheeky! They are lovely, and we get on really well though.

Allergictoironing · 03/06/2024 13:58

At least they don't insist on bringing Mithril to stay too!!!
