Had to rush my cat to the emergency vets this morning

She was gasping for breath and her pupils were hugely dilated. They did blood tests and an x-ray and it doesn't look good. Her blood tests were deranged all over the place and it looks like she has masses in her lungs and near her heart. They can't wean her off the oxygen. They said to confirm the masses she would need a CT and/or biopsy but that wouldn't be until Wednesday at the earliest and they're not honestly sure she'll make it If they can't get her off the oxygen she can't have it anyway. She's not shown any signs of being unwell and just last night was cuddled up on my lap purring. I just want her back.

They've given her steroids this evening to see if that helps but it looks like I have a very difficult decision to make very soon.

I'm absolutely devastated and trying to hold it together for the kids. My youngest is devastated too. We're not sure how old she is but I've had her nearly 6 years and she was probably about 3 or 4 when I got her.

Because I had to take her to the emergency clinic I had to pay out £500 - she is insured but obviously I couldn't get hold of the insurers today.

Here's my beautiful girl Bonnie having a cuddle with me:

So sorry for your loss. But you were there for her last moment and that is the best gift you could have given her.

So sorry I had similar two weeks ago with my Eric. No insurance due to age, paid 1600 to vet and didn’t even get a diagnosis. Then further 500 at vet hospital who found tumour and pts. From my bad experience , I would let them go, I am so guilty that my boy spent his last day at the vet having useless tests and treatment. Handhold here it is awful, hope you and your beloved puss get the best help

I am so so sorry this is heartbreaking such a beautiful pussycat I went thru similar with my dog she was 13 but perfectly healthy and with a life expectancy of 20 usually. on the Sunday she was running around a car boot field then on the Monday bit breathless but thought her heart pills needed adjusting heartbreakingly did not say goodbye to her as I thought I would see her after work after tests they found her one lung had gone one 2/3rds due to tumours so after discussion we said let her go as she was under anesthetic anyway due to the x rays i thought kissing her goodbye as she slipped away would have killed me too 3 years on not a day goes by when i dont cry for her i am so so sorry for you but please know you did the right thing and she wont suffer xxxx
