Did someone ask ‘who wants to play a board game’?

why if something is on the floor do cats have to sit on it?

Mine loves to sit on paper and books. I think it’s because cats are expert mathematicians and they like to experiment with shape/size etc.

I remember our first cat curling up cosily on a very small till receipt 😁

A sleeve of a cardigan which dropped from an armchair!

Doyouthinktheyknow · 21/12/2023 06:55

Mine sat on a pile of drinks coasters!

She’s a large cat, the coasters are small but sit on them she did!

And with the whole of our king size bed for the taking, she sat on dh’s shorts which were on one corner and are now covered in cat hair🤣

Shes bonkers and I’ve been up since 5am when she got spooked by the wind and went slightly mad 🙈

We lost our 19 year old a year ago and I really want another cat but my dog (who lived apart from cat) gets too excited around them. I think a smart biff on his nose would sort it but wouldn't want to put a cat in this situation. Mine used to sit on any item of clothing or on occasion my book

goingtohellinahandcart · 21/12/2023 07:42

@Motheroffourdragons that is a move if you dare look 😂

I think part of the time it's because whatever is on the floor has your attention, (or could have) and since it's illegal for your attention to be on anything other than your feline owner they're helping you not break the law.

If you have a wood floor and draw a circle or other shape a cat will go and sit inside it! Try it.

I bet you could freak out superstitious types if you've got a black cat and draw a pentagram.Grin.

Dilbertian · 21/12/2023 10:27

Clearly mine is defective. He disdains items on the floor.

Put neatly folded clean laundry on a kingside bed, however...

PotatoAloo · 21/12/2023 10:33

It's how we tempt our rather standoffish cats to sit with us on the sofa or on the bed.

Bed or sofa on its own? Nah, not sitting there, that's crap.

Bed or sofa with a piece of paper or item of clothing on it? HELL YEAH, I'M SITTING ON THAT RIGHT NOW!

Throwingpots · 21/12/2023 10:39

This ring you put down is now my precious

why if something is on the floor do cats have to sit on it?
twistandfart · 21/12/2023 10:57

I looked this up a little while ago. It's apparently to do with them feeling safe and secure if they are sat within a small space. Even if that small space has no sides / walls.
So evolution is the reason my cat squeezes his bum into my headphones case or tried to sit on a coaster Grin

SabrinaThwaite · 21/12/2023 10:57

TBF, wearing black trousers prompts an instant “I’m going to sit on you and shed as much white hair as possible”.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 21/12/2023 12:17

Oh that is one pretty girl @Throwingpots
