......... Silent Night.........

Well, maybe not so silent when there's a cat about who wants to be fed.

Join us in the run up to Christmas 2023!

I've read more of the thread now and you all have such lovely cats, it's a lovely thread reading about them all

As Grumpy says...

He also said "how are you still alive, swallowing all that stuff?"

Some lovely new-to-me cats recently! I’ve noted there’s a trend of three main sorts of cat eyes: the Machiavellian plotters (Doris, for example), the consistently extremely surprised (Mr Darcy is one of those unless he actually was genuinely surprised), and the wide-eyed innocents (Velvet, who can hear a NO for scratching the carpet three rooms away but still look all hurt at the “wrongful accusation”).

Sorry about all the poorly cats :( At first I thought getting stressed about a Christmas tree sounded like a bit of a fuss about nothing, but if he’s a nervy cat and that’s “his” windowsill that he can use to survey his territory that makes much more sense. Hope he’s feeling better soon.

@LostCats I am so sorry you’re going to lost your special boy. I’m sure you’ve given him a lovely life and you obviously care about him so much if you were crying at the PTS thread too (also because you have a cat and I’ve no reason to suspect you’re not nice).

NMC Havelock in his domestic habitat.

Supersimkin2 · 14/12/2023 14:54

Nippy day. Prince a little defensive of sofa duvet.

Supersimkin2 · 14/12/2023 14:57

As shown.

Is that a cat familiar with a wand?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/12/2023 15:54

Prince with a sharp knife eh?

PRINCE!!! HAVEASNACK!!! My darling boys!!!

And how are you Super? 🥰

Cecile - you can add the "perma-pissed-off-scowl" to your list of cats' eyes, it's Leroy's natural expression and often found on black cats 😁

Papergirl1968 · 14/12/2023 16:37

I'm so sorry, @LostCats that Boone is now on borrowed time.
Enjoy what time you have left as much as you can. You'll know when it's the right time.
It's the most difficult decision to make but I do wish there was an similar option for humans without the hoops we currently have to jump through.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 14/12/2023 16:46

Thank you for your suggestion. I’m going to add it as a subheading under “plotting” because they’re probably so pissed off with everything and everyone that they just want to overthrow the established system and whenever they get annoyed they can just chuck something off a shelf (or in Velvet’s case, bite the nearest inanimate object. Very strange cat.) I originally thought that when their eyes went very narrow it was just a very intense planning phase but now I do see that they are lamenting the state of humanity and fellow cathood.

Speaking of Velvet, she’s had an interesting day! Early morning nap (mornings are normally spent zooming and exploring interspersed with little checkups on me/checking out whatever excitement is going on in the house), a couple of excursions and check-ins and then a SUPER long outing to… nobody knows where. My mother had to pack for and depart for a trip at that point (of Velvet’s return) and Velvet decided to go to the top of the stairs, bite the stairs a bit, not really want to play but meow in an extremely plaintive way. Side note: when she meows she sounds like she’s really melancholy, but I’ve deduced from other signs that she’s not saying WOE FOR MY PEOPLE ARE DEAD AND MY HOME IS RAZED TO THE GROUND AND NOBODY HAS FED ME, I think it’s just her tone of voice. After that, she randomly lay down on a blanket, purred a bit (I was on the stairs, she was on the upstairs landing) and fell deeply asleep. Pictures attached!

Argh.

Just been told our water (which is tested monthly) has shown positive for Legionella.

We have to move out for five days on Monday. They'll send us to a hotel (with Linney) and pay for our meals etc.

The whole system has to be treated with some vile, toxic chemical.

Oh well. At least I got the presents wrapped today.

But what a time of year for this to happen.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 14/12/2023 17:43

Oh dear. But probably better than spending Christmas coughing your lungs up with what I believe is basically the bastard child of pneumonia and TB?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/12/2023 17:51

That's a bloody nuisance Shell although at least you'll be back in time for Christmas. I confess to be looking forward to photos of Linney trashing a hotel room, or maybe going up to the buffet at breakfast. Do they know what they are letting themselves in for?

Edited

I am also looking forward to seeing what Linney gets up to in a hotel room.

Picard will be puzzled not to find us in for a few days.

I'm ready for Christmas now anyway, except for the turkey, and I can get the butcher to deliver it to DS's house.

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 14/12/2023 18:21

And I can eat chocolate and mince pies just as well at a hotel as I can in my own house.

I was going to remind you not to stick your bubblegum on the (hotel) bedpost overnight, but then remembered that you wouldn't anyway, and your cat is called Linney not Lonnie. 🤣

RumNotRun · 14/12/2023 20:15

What a nightmare @TheShellBeach but fingers crossed for a posh hotel as befits a cat of Linney's stature.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 14/12/2023 20:28

I used to sing Christmas carols at the Ritz sometimes and I think Linney would look magnificent against their background of red carpet and [about five hundred times more than anyone would ever need, ever] Christmas decorations. So they ought to put you both up there.
