My kitten has pooped somewhere and I can’t find it.

Any ideas where to look? The smell is strongest in the main hall and on the staircase walking downstairs. I have looked everywhere. I literally cannot find the source of the smell, but I know it’s definitely kitten poop.

she normally goes in her litter tray but DD closed the door to where her tray is kept before school this morning so she had no access to it all day. I’m at a complete loss here.

In a shoe in the hall?
In the very edge of a stair tread where not much light hits?
If you’ve got a torch and a pair of rubber gloves maybe walk down stairs backwards sweeping your hand the whole way over each stair? It might even be clinging <🤮> to the vertical bit of carpet rather than on a step!

Have searched all the shoes under the stairs, even threw away two full boxes of clothes waiting to be donated in case it was in there and still nothing! Standing at the top of the stairs now and ready to vomit from the smell

We had this recently with our kitten and a wee somewhere in the living room. My sense of smell is shot ATM so I couldn't find where in the room it was lurking. I paid DCs a pound each to track it down - they went round like a pair of bloodhounds and found it in under 3 mins. £2 very well spent!

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 22/11/2023 19:04

Take your shoes and socks off and have a normal walk around. Your toes will find it.

(It's in your handbag)

I asked DD to help but she said “no I’m just a kid” so I left it 🤣

I’ve been walking around barefoot hoping to stumble upon it (as disgusting as that is), but the smell is putrid! Being pregnant and sensitive to smells isn’t helping much either! I think we’ll just have to move at this point!

checked all bags, shoes etc. even checked DDs school bag that was with her all day. It’s impossible!

You have to bribe them! Mine wouldn't do it as a favour either. Everyone has a price... 😬

romdowa · 22/11/2023 19:48

Have you carpet? Maybe kitty had a runny tum and it's dried now making it harder to see

Chickenpoxhelp · 22/11/2023 19:49

Plant pot somewhere?

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 22/11/2023 19:52

Behind the curtain? Oh how I sympathise 🤢

Disturbia81 · 22/11/2023 19:57

Could you borrow a dog.. they'd find it 🤢

Up high on curtain rail/top of cupboards?

kneehightoacat · 22/11/2023 20:03

Plants!

kneehightoacat · 22/11/2023 20:04

Anything that smells earthy or woody?

Ponderingwindow · 22/11/2023 20:11

We had a cat go between sofa cushions in similar circumstances. We suspect it was an attempt to bury.

Ourlittletalks · 22/11/2023 21:43

Update on the missing poop: still nowhere in sight. I’ve moved all furniture and essentially torn the house apart at this point, it’s somewhere but it’s nowhere! Think we will have to move out.

From experience: under the stairs in the farthest corner covered by something else. It took me two MONTHS to track it down.

piscofrisco · 23/11/2023 06:19

Any houseplants? Our cat has taken to pooping in the houseplant pots. If someone forgets to shut a door overnight to keep him away from them he does it every bloody time. I've had to repot them about six times as I can't get the smell out Angry

piscofrisco · 23/11/2023 06:21

Could it be something else though? Dead mouse under the floorboards or behind a skirting board?

margotrose · 23/11/2023 06:35

Are you sure the kitten hasn't eaten it and you're just smelling the tiny remains somewhere? 🤢

PaperDoIIs · 23/11/2023 07:02

Bathtub or behind the toilet in the tiniest space it could fit. Speaking from experience.

CormorantStrikesBack · 23/11/2023 07:13

Don’t worry it’ll stop smelling eventually. When I moved house I cleaned on top of the kitchen cupboards for the first time in years and found a mouldy cat poo. Didn’t smell at all! 🙈😂

LadyBird1973 · 23/11/2023 07:56

You're going to need to rent a carpet cleaner and shampoo everything in sight!

I once spent 2 hours looking for a giant spider that turned out to be in the far corner under the stairs.

Maybe follow the kitten around the house - they usually go back to bury poops

Shitonitjackie · 24/11/2023 17:00

Might sound silly, but is kitten long haired by any chance? I have a long haired cat & when she was a kitten -on a couple of occasions- I kept smelling poo. It turned out she had a dried poo blob stuck in her very fluffy bum area! (or her pantaloons as I call them!) Cue gloves, clippers & lik e lix squeezed onto a lick mat & problem dealt with! It really stank even though the poop had dried out.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 24/11/2023 17:27

These things usually appear when someone comes to my house with a distinctly judgemental air about them. Do your DC have any posh friends to invite round? MIL? Headteacher? Local magistrate or chief of police?

GasDrivenNun · 24/11/2023 18:58

In a plant pot?
